  1. Ok, I just installed my tank after being completely dry and off the bike for 7-8 weeks. Nearly all the elongation had gone. The nut had to be slid all the way to the rear but no pressure was needed to align the bolt. There is a nice gap between the tank and the rear cowl. So they can "recover" in time when emptied. How much time? It seems like the heat of the summer storage helped it recover more, and faster than my winter experience with the tank off.
  2. the "migration" of the fuel filter is, I believe, a result of a "vapor lock" condition caused by engine heat. the filter moved from under the mainframe to above it, and eventually into the gas tank to keep it cool. I have never had a vapor lock problem, and it get's hot in Indiana. Mind, I avoid city traffic and always try to stay on the move. That's to keep ME from overheating! I can't say just now what the gear oil weight spec is. I use synthetic Red Line Shockproof heavy in both, and it covers something like 75w250 at temp. Some here like it, some use the 'lite' version. Some don't use it. the chin pad is the black cushion on top of your tank. at some point in '02 the pad went solid and is painted. I've seen both on '02-'03 but only painted on '04 and up the transition from white face gauges was because they were kinda junky. so far mine work well. I can't speak to the oem upgrade, but there are threads here for using a lovely aftermarket setup, and many have. http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=19038&page=9&hl=%2Bvitus+%2Bdance&do=findComment&comment=220473
  3. Sorry, one more. I didn't pay attention to the arrows on the fuel filter indicating direction. I assume that the flow is from higher towards the gauges flowing down to the rear of the bike? if it's an '02 carryover and sold as '03, it may have white face gauges and paint bubbling up on the engine block. my '02's both had an external fuel pump at the front of the bike under the neck of the frame. the fuel filter is inline with and under the spine frame main member between the cylinders. the fuel flow is as you said, front to rear. just remember towards the "carbs" throttle bodies. I'm sure some changes were made at some point during the '03 model year, to deal with problems regarding fuel pump, gauges, and engine paint. Later 03's have the upgraded changes. This forum is a good place to help you get the bike sorted. It's been priceless for me.
  4. if that's the one from cycle trader, yes. a 2003- an '02 carryover. I like those.
  5. ok, I'll get it from there. and Thank You Docc for all that hard work restoring photos. PB has wreaked havoc on forums world wide. I hope they suffer. I also wish the best of luck to Nic and ImgZeit.
  6. Love that color./ did you just get it? I saw one for sale recently in LA.
  7. Welcome to the forum! I can't really tell what/where in those pics. if it terminates at the back of the tranny towards the road, and is connected to nothing, then the other end attaches to the underside of the fuel tank. it's the gas overflow
  8. couple things.... Chuck, is there a place (store) one can walk into and get PTI zinc chromate, and/or are other more easily obtained brands equally "good" too? this place http://www.aircraftspruce.com/neworderform.php has 'em, but at $18 a can and $14 to ship I want to look around first Docc, is there any way to get the photos back in a couple of important threads? Namely Lucky Phil's 'shift improvement' and the one for Roper plate installation. Pete did one and I think Greg feld as well.
  9. This is cool! Just hook it to the battery and watch it?
  10. not that it matters I suppose, but I wonder if the "really bright" moments are how it's supposed to be, and the rest of the "less bright" time is when the problem is occurring.
  11. I've been had I haven't seen the movie, but I do however, recall the first time I saw a Delorean. It was a summer night in '81. Hitting the bars in Broad Ripple, an area in Indianapolis that's as close to Bohemian as it gets here. Turned a corner and WoW! I had a bit of a buzz going when I saw the car. Bear in mind I did not know they existed. He was just ahead of me. I got into the oncoming lane and pulled up along side. With a big smile on my face I shouted "what the hell is that?" He said something indistinguishable and I yelled "you gotta pull that thing over." He actually did! He was quite happy to tell me everything about the car. Man was I impressed. A car that didn't rust, and looked like science fiction. I was sad and not at all surprised at the quick demise of that company. "Detroit" had to kill it.
  12. what is That? the connector (other end) is indeed the air temp sensor on the airbox. I hadn't got that far in re-assembly and was freaking out. Patience..
  13. what about the ends? the oem's have a nice tight sleeve that cleans it up nice and stops the frays
  14. "The braided hoses that go from the petcock to the external fuel pumps are no longer available. I think I might take one to a hose shop and see what it would cost to get a batch made." I'm In!
  15. perfect. thanks gents
  16. If it has a lead, that's probably it. I haven't got to the airbox yet in my reverse order.
  17. After removing the motor, I'm getting her back together and came across something I missed in my notes, photos and memory. It comes from the harness under center frame, and has a very short lead. I can Not find where the heck it goes. Anyone?
  18. Thanks for your efforts to get many of us hooked up with a slosh plate Scud. Well done.
  19. Hey Phil, Since your photos for this lovely thread are being held hostage by pb, is czakky's spring positioning in the above post photo the correct one? edit: I figured it out.
  20. From Thumper Talk. An article about engine break in. Hits on some basics of friction and oils. https://thumpertalk.com/articles/engine-break-in-truth-lies-and-what-you-really-need-to-know-r707/
  21. probably something like this then, only with a fly screen added? this is a 2004 Sport Naked. You can copy- paste smaller photos with ease, as I've done here. I pulled this off Google
  22. what model is it? color?
  23. Gosh Ewan, was it something I said? http://www.ebay.com/itm/222605924479?ul_noapp=true and http://www.ebay.com/itm/2002-Moto-Guzzi-V11-Le-Mans-Tenni/222605863907?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D45726%26meid%3Dab0879cbc0ed493097b6d365037df0b7%26pid%3D100010%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D222605924479&_trksid=p2047675.c100010.m2109
  24. I'm sure I read your description somewhere using leverage with a piece of wood?? That's how I do it!! My tank does not get all that large when it's off. The bolt hole is usually only about 5mm off. I do have to remove the Simon Cowl or it scrapes hard against it. Last winter the tank was off and dry for 4 months, and it had shrunk back somewhat. The winter before I built a jig to store it on as if it were still mounted on a bike. Not much difference with or without the jig. I think 5mm long is it's 'happy place'. We'll see when I put it back on after being off 6 weeks.
