Those riser look like something I need, too. I sort of don’t understand how they work, anybody have any photos of them installed....?

Thanks Tim, I sent an order for 2 per PayPal...

The recall didn't expire, it was just renamed as "flexible hose" which was confusing to ProItalia until they saw the 8.8 hours, then they realized it was a new recall, and just a bad translation from Italian to English. You can call Moto International with your VIN and they can look it up for you. You can also call Piaggio directly in N.Y., which I also did.

The NHTSA safety recall is still in effect, if you have a local dealer they should fix it. ProItalia did mine for free, but they resisted until they realized they would be reimbursed by Piaggio to the tune of 9 shop hours...!

Cool bike Tim, let us know how it settles in to the stable. My Capo is for sale, probably moving and don't have room, I have sorted everything with this bike, it is Japanese reliable: gas and go. https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/mcy/6501512547.html

Mexico has been using tapes like these for a while. I was given one when shooting a Gatorade commercial in Mexico City in 1999. The only problem: when communicating a measurement, one has to define what standard was meant, if the intention wasn’t clear. In the heat of production, and using 2 languages, it rarely was. Made for some Abbot & Costello kind of conversations.

Converting to handlebars, need a Sport/Scura fairing, preferably with brackets (if applicable) color doesn't matter (I can get it painted) but if it's silver thats even better....

Bell Ethanol Defense on a regular basis. Redline S1 + Italian Tune-Up when I think things are getting sticky.

Docc’s right. Once you know the steps, a quick tune is very easy, and the bike always runs better afterward, even if everything seemed in spec. Could also be my imagination......kind of like noticing the bike also runs better after detailing it. No, it really does!

Get a breakout harness for the wiring going to the TPS. Search this site for “breakout” and “Casper’s electronics” Makes the setting of the TPS WAY easier the first time, and will make it WAY easier to re-check periodically....

Surging is classic symptom of "TPS base-setting is out-of-spec".

Just add some stabilizer, like Bell Performance. Not sure if you have ethanol in your gas, but we have it here, and it's literally adding sugar to your tank. I have been using a stabilizer for 4+ years and don't have any issues with tank swelling. After a layup I might pour in a little Redline Fuel Injector Cleaner and go for an Italian Tune-Up.

When the new springs come in, I'll put one in the greenie and take a closer look. While the majority of the transmission is the same for the whole V11 series, I have personally seen 4 variations in the pre-selector: 2000 Red-Frame (my Greenie) - the preselector gears are cut-through in places and have teeth only about 270 degrees. 2002 First year of black frame (my Scura) - the preselector gears are solid and have 360-degree gears (many of which never get engaged). this one had the too-large boss, which caused spring-binding 2003 with internal fuel pump (my red LeMans) - same as the 2002, but now with smaller boss. Also has the second eccentric adjuster, where the earlier models had only fixed pins. 2004 (a spare tranny from a parted Nero Corsa that mysteriously arrived at my house one day) - this preselector was the same as the 2003, but added the "banana" reinforcement plate. I installed this one on the LeMans, which is off enjoying Arizona with her new owner. So... with all those changes, Moto Guzzi must have been trying to solve some sort of problem. Has Chuck finally solved it? Only time and aggressive shifting will tell. I'm trying to do my part. My 2001 sport has the 270 degree teeth, and had the large 16mm boss until I ground it down to just under 15mm.

Neutral light out, deploy side stand, bike stalls

After parking the bike in gear, the switch became unstuck and started working again. But, it's on the agenda for replacement, sooner or later. Thanks for all the replies. -
Neutral light out, deploy side stand, bike stalls
JBBenson replied to JBBenson's topic in Technical Topics
Side stand switch is fine, although it wouldn't affect this circuit, even though it seems like it would. If I had a neutral light, then, yes, the side stand switch might be the culprit. Grounding the terminal at the neutral switch produces a neutral light, so it is the neutral switch. I have parked it in gear, having read that this trick relieves the sometimes sticking switch. So, the question is now, how often do these switches go bad? Who here has actually replaced one? -
After a ride tonight, the neutral light stopped working. I got the bike into neutral, and with it still idling, I deployed the side stand, as always, so I could open my garage door. Bike stalls. Hm. I re-started and tried again, just to be sure. Sure enough, it stalled again. I checked the relays, using a known 2 good ones in the #3 position, still no neutral light. I checked the connection to the neutral with, cleaned it and lightly sanded with emery paper to get to really clean. The fit was good and tight. Still no neutral light. My diagnosis is this: the bike stalls because it thinks it's in gear, even when it isn't. The lack of any neutral light, and the cutting of the ignition when the side stand is down is evidence of this. These symptoms appeared simultaneously. So, it must be the neutral switch on the transmission. Right? How do they actually work? is there some kind of spring or plunger that has failed? Has anyone replaced theirs? Can I do it without draining the transmission? I have searched but didn't find anything about failing neutral switches.

Well, 3 Time Serts later, the valve covers are back on. That's like the longest valve cover gasket job I have every done. For the record, the bolts are M6x1.0......
-
I have discovered at least one stripped 5mm hole in the head where the valve cover bolt goes in. So, it is breaking faster than I can fix it. It does explain the leak though, as it was coming from that corner where the bolt was stripped and torque was weak. Time Sert M5 kit ordered.....it has 5 inserts, so if I discover another one....... I will say, if you are doing valves, replace the gaskets every time. They are cheap, and when they get too old they literally fuse onto the head and take hours to remove. Literally.

Installed a transmission mount from Don Moomaw @ Motiv Cycleworks, OK. (405)-641-1801. He has more for sale, so call him up if you need one. Had to remove the entire RH throttle body etc. to get in there, but it's fitted and tightened up. A little insurance against a cracked transmission case. Now chasing an oil leak that sprayed all over the pork chops. I found one coming from the valve cover gasket, so I decided to change the gaskets, as I had a pair. Well, the old gaskets had hardened to a flakey concrete-like consistency, and had fused to the aluminum head. So, a 30 minute job is now in hour 3, and I still have the left side to do. Installing the Knight Design 1" lowered footpegs on my Sport made a huge difference for my hips and knees. Much better. One of the better mods I have made. -
They come from the factory that way. Hehe. Enjoy.

Put me down for two of them whenever they get done....!!!
