  1. Its a pig of a job... I initially thought as i wrestled the wheel out, got filthy and whacked my grimy knuckles on the swingarm for the umpteenth time... Then, once I'd wiped down all the areas accessable with the rear wheel out, cleaned and checked the caliper, given the front shaft nipple a pump or three (sooo satisfying), greased the bevel needle bearing and shaft splines, looked at the torque rod- all clean with lovely new rod ends fitted... I thought: It was damn worth it.
  2. This is one job that keeps slipping my mind... Right! I'm doin it tomo! Cheers for the reminder Roy!
  3. Would this be for easing strain on the bevel system/driveline? Or avoiding handling issues? I ask as I've not felt any detriment in handling since fitting the RP unit. Plus, why are all the aftermarket ones 'solid' links? As docc says- won't the suspension (and cush??) absorb shocks?
  4. So the cushioning effect of the OE arms bushings is necessary? I've got a rossopuro on my bike too and am just about to replace the rose joints for the first time. I did think that it's a lot of force slamming thru these rod ends on acceleration and braking- the bearing supplier I use mentioned that it may be possible to get 'racing spec' or heavy duty joints for more longevity. When the rod ends started to wear it manifested in the dreaded rear end 'clunking' sound as the bevel box rotated.
  5. Would it be possible to cut/chop out the old bushings and press a couple of spherical plain bearings in i wonder?
  6. They look great in silver. Black's lovely too. Always liked the green ones as well.... Heck they're all pretty! Soaking the peg in wd40 or 3-in-1 over-night could free it off, and give the rear caliper a damn good strip n clean.
  7. Mine went haywire last year- when i took the clocks out i found badly frayed and virtually severed cables. Never got to the bottom of why they were in such a surprisingly bad state. The speedo drive went soon after so i junked the lot and fitted an after-market unit which has been fine.
  8. Just found an entry on gutsibits website- looks like a few weeks wait though....
  9. Hi All, Is there a stockist in the uk for replacements? Ta, stew
  10. Heh! Here's to minor oil leaks! Chin chin!
  11. Has anyone used these badgers? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131329992767?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

    Rear Rack

Hi All, has anyone in or near the UK got a rear rack up for grabs? Stew
  14. scud, re the reaction rod: I've got a rossopuro unit fitted on mine. Two rose (heim) joints and a rod and two locknutz is all it is. I might be wrong but if the bushings for the original unit are near impossible to source, two joints and a tapped rod shouldn't be too hard to sort?
  15. Temporarily fitted a 60mm cap-head screw where the (snapped) sidestand foot'uk used to be. It works. The occasional dry-ish moment over the last few days has allowed me to spank her about town. Which is nice.
  16. It really does. is the plate hanging off the other side? If so, that'd be a 2 into 1? Love all that dark with just a splash of red chop + ht lead.
  17. Although today I did trace one noise.... My side-stand foot-lever has broken at one mount and was tinkling merrily on downhill over-run...
  18. Are you thinking it's valve clatter then? Nothing untoward happening? I get the rattle too- opening it up at speed whilst in a higher gear and at lower revs. I had assumed it was pinking and was trying to avoid it when possible.... Are we in any consensus on this? I find the rattle to be quite an unsettling noise.
  19. The steering head ones are 30205-A bearings. Two of. Is there a dedicated thread to post to?
  20. I've just read that Ducati's new 'mid range' sportsbike has 157bhp, 80ftlbs and weights 175 kilos...
  21. I have the workshop stand from gutsibits, which is a great, sturdy design and I've used it loads. Obviously the porkchop problem remains. Plus you're in NZ...... The basic design is mostly simple square section and flat bar welded up- maybe not a deal of effort for a capable welder/metalworker? These bikes are pretty heavy- i wouldn't want to be struggling hoisting it about.
  22. Believe me the clamping force of the mount bolts is way in excess of the weight of the bike. Not even worth considering. Ciao Am I right in thinking that's fourteen bolts torqued to 12nm? How's the total calculated?
  23. Yeah, I wondered... those poor gaskets! You'd want it hanging off the frame surely?
  24. 80 buckaroos? Mustn't grumble eh?
  25. I was riding with my damper backed right off ever since I purchased the machine- engaging it even a wee bit felt like steering in treacle so I left it off. Then I replaced the head bearings and now she does benefit from a couple of turns on the damper. Mainly at low speeds when I'm riding tired/badly and putting too much weight through the 'bars. The lower bearing was proper knackered- orange and skanky. That's on a 25,000 mile machine. Incidentally, I dropped the forks about 20mm to see what would happen- whoa! That's some quick steering! Too quick for me- I've settled at 12mm which feels lovely.
