  2. Cheers Docc, yeah when I took the tacho out I found 2 broken wires and a puddle (is anyone else tempted to pierce a small drain hole in the tach side??). I've a spare tacho as it happens due to the current one being reet misty. Not certain why the speedo/odo failed yet but seeing as I smashed the binacle when I dropped her off the stand, I was thinking of replacing the lot. All other leccy components seem fine so far...

  4. Cheers man, some stuff to mull over there.... I've just been inspecting the damage to my binacle (arf!) and maybe it aint too bad to fix after all... We also say "Shit load". Sometimes we've been known to call it a "@#!#$# tonne". Pardon my potty mouth.
  5. Right O, let us know if Moore's get back to you Steve, be interesting to know their input. Scud: 1) My preliminary thoughts are to replace the whole stock set-up with a 'pared down' appearance- one unit on a bracket. However I've not had time to muse too deeply as yet. Electrics aren't my strong point but I'd be happy to shape a bracket up (plus Moore's say they have them to suit anyway). 2) Speedo signal... hmmm... this straight from the website and over my head: "...compatible with most of original speedo sensors (Dry-Reed and inductive proximity sensor like BuellTM oder Harley-DavidsonTM). In this case you connect some cables and you do not need to install a sensor. An intelligent 'Teach-Function' enables the instrument to calibrate itself when riding the bike." 3) I assume the unit would feed off the existing cabling. 4) The unit is apparently water- and shock-proof. 5) Oil gauge and Voltmeter? I don't need the extra worry, ta! Great thread from yourself, Chambers and Roy by the way- I feel the job mightn't be as scarey as I'd thought. Stew.
  6. My clocks have died so am looking for a new set-up. Moore Speed Racing have a great range of stuff available and I particularly like the idea of fitting a small, single unit, a la: http://www.moorespeedracing.co.uk/cafe-racer-guages/motogadget-motoscope-tiny-speedo.html I'm happy enough to potter my way thru electrical works but I wondered if the more savvy amongst us think fitting such a unit would be relatively straightforward? Are there any obvious issues to be aware of when installing different gauges? Ta for any input , Stew
  7. All interesting stuff this- great info! I just got back from a Scotland trip, bike ran sweet as a nut all the way round As I was a-heading back south, I went the scenic route thru alston and buttertubs etc etc (so, so recommended), I lost the tacho, odometer and speedo all in the space of 10 miles... Quite novel not knowing how fast you're going! Heh! Got the bike home, on the stand, full clean down, new tyres + bearings, everything greased up like a piggy, clox turned out to have various broken wires plus a puddle sitting in there.... 'That'll be the problem then', I thought, 'Sod it, I'm off for a clock-less spin on my new tyres anyways'. Dropping her off the stand the weight falls weird and over she goes. Cnut. The clock housing catches on my workshop stand and smashes it up. I thinks that'd be irony right there. Soooo, I'm in the market for a new set-up methinks. Stew
  8. Ok, preliminary report.... Does she fall into corners more slowly? Yyyyes kinda, but new set o tyres- soooo lovely and tippy Does she feel more planted? Yes. Still handle good? Yes. Avons are feeling great in the wet (rather: Damp, showers so far) and the dry, even though not scrubbed in yet- put only, say, 50 miles on them. The old tyres were fair bolloxed so might be wearing rosy spex at the mo, but rather happy so far. Tread looks good and deep so will either be crap or good for ages! Hot damn but that fat backside looks mighty fine! Me? Vanity?? Well she is Italian.. When they're properly run in I'll take her out for a proper burn. I'm anticipating slightly less 'tip in' but much more stability thru the bends. Stew.
  9. I'm going back to a 180 rear. Controversial, I know! When I made the change to a 170, I was unsure as to whether it was an improvement or not. I've had the bike long enough now to hopefully notice the difference. A set of GT's was considered but they cost over 40 quid more and I'm spending the difference on new bearings. The T30's seem good as far as I've heard. I too have wondered about pressure settings- 33/36 is quite different to 36/42 and, considering that some reports say over/under inflating by a couple of psi can be quite detrimental, it'd be good to know for sure! I was running the ST's at 33/36....
  10. Ay up All, Getting a set of the new Avon 3D XM's (xtra mileage) fitted. The Pirelli st's that are coming off were appalling: Dreadful crowning on the front, rear flattened off like Herman Munster's bonce in no time, and after about 3k miles was thru to the metal all around the centerline. If I could've removed them myself, I'd have trebuchet'd them into the sea. I am sincerely hoping for better things with the avons, if anyone's interested I'll post up how they bed in. Stew.
  11. Hey up dude, I've been wonderin about these Marzocchi's myself as I've been bouncin about on Sheffield roads... I fitted some Hagon progressive springs on my previous bike which was a noticable improvement. Some on this forum mention fitting a Gixxer front on the v11 which I spose would be vastly better and, if i was inclined to spend much cash, would prob be the way to go?
  12. I got stranded on the Isle of Skye last year and had to bump the beast over to Inverness to grab a battery. The only one they had that was suitable was a GS brand. The terminals were reversed compared to standard fitment so it were a twat to fit , buuuut, it has performed faultlessly since... It's been laid up for nearly a month recently due to various bouts o spannerin (and my garage has no power, boo hoo, so I didn't attach a trickler)- even so she fired right up like a gud 'un. I've heard that the first charge is important for battery health but, obviously, I wasn't able to do this as I had the Highlands to visit. And most pleasing they were to. Stew

Hi All, a pal's bike is up for sale: V7 Stone (need to find out year as yet), Black, 1,600 miles, excellent condition due to: The original engine had a problem with it's oil system, so was replaced by MG under warranty. Paperwork available. I think the new engine has covered less than 100 miles since. Cosmetically he says it's fairly mint due to the low mileage. Owner's moving so bike frees up £££'s for the move. He mentioned £5,200. South Yorkshire area. P.s. Am I ok to post non-v11 stuff here? Stew
  16. At the risk of labouring the booty point: I too replaced mine and achieved better running, but one side was split where the jube clip had cut into it- probably due to over-tightening. It could be worth removing your new boots juuust to double extra recheck that they're fine, and also, dandy. Apologies for stating possibly obvious checks but my personal mental run-thru would go: Sufficiently tight battery terminals? Plugs in tight enough? And gapped right? HT leads working well? Coil OK? Fuel filter fine? And pipes not kinked? Water in the fuel system? Hope you can diagnose the problem, I feel for you- It's shit not being able to rely on the machine. Stew
  17. Aye it's very nice- I've got the dark grey v11 so it is pleasingly lacking in bling... that gold torq rod though... just nestling there amongst the darknesss... mmmm. Only reason I have it though is cos some utter git pinched Harry's machine. Which sucks.
  18. Yeah, I'd second that, almost 2k for idle? Mine too idles happy around 1100 - 1200. Will the guzzidiag diagnose rich running?
  19. Update: New wheel bearings fitted, cush stripped, cleaned, + drilled, new oil in backbox, installed rossopuro reaction rod (thanks Harry) fitted with new rose joints. Clunk is gone! C'est magnifique! Admittedly the exact source of the problem still remains unidentified as I did everything all in one go, but I'd guess wheel bearings as per docc's original advice. Added bonus in fitment of crossover-less headers (thanks Harry!) : Access to alt cover improved plus bike looks wayyy better, sounds even more rrrockin and, is it my imagination (?) but she seems to pull more strongly too! Damn these bikes are fine.
  20. Well I've just removed the perfectly functional Aprilia mirrors off mine and replaced with standard bolt on bar-enders. I've used longer 60mm cap heads so as to attach them on the end of the weights.
