  1. i took the start button apart too to see whether there was any obvious problem there. Seemed fine, so i cleaned it thoroughly and checked the wires too.
  2. kill switch functions as it should yar
  3. well i checked the ignition switch and it isn’t the problem as far as i can tell. still getting intermittent cranking.
  4. But i’ll try again, heating with a torch, tomo evening
  5. I had a quick bash with an extractor but as there isn’t any depth it just chewed it out
  6. Nice tip about de-stressing the solder joints Roy- ta. They look good so will try to keep em that way. Those ignition switch clips are fun if you are evolutionarily retarded with only two hands 😀 I had various bits removed earlier, ig switch, tank, airbox, breather hose, speedo cable, removed the damn hotgrips wiring that’s been bugging me for a time: couldn’t identify exactly where my oil leak was coming from, but i replaced the breather hose anyway… possibly the oil ‘y’ hose from the pots, but could be mistaken. Quite a puddle of nastiness in the airbox mind. Someone’s done a lot of pissing about with the wiring, and not in a nice way 😠 The middle grease nip snapped off on the drive shaft, which was ace, any tips for removing the leftover thread would be appreciated as it’s almost blind. This should be in ‘wot i did to my v11 today’
  7. I’d pay money to see anyone do that in 15 minutes
  8. Dunno details man, it came up on the faceache page, folks heading to a cafe at Fradley. I was toying with the idea of going myself but after riding today i have an oily left boot 😠. So poss got a loose oil line or split breather hose to investigate. Still need to clean out the ignition too so tomo will be a spannerin day i’m thinking.
  9. Nice. You taking her out on the staffies rideout tomo grim?
  10. Are the higher current relays recommended for all points? I’m aware that the fuel relay does get very warm, but is the starter, and other relays, likely to be of benefit?
  11. if the starter current doesn’t route thru the wheel bearings it’s not a guzzi.
  12. Thanks Roy (sorry for going over all this well-worn ground! I ran my ballabio for years with no issues-she always cranked good + strong but the current machine is proving to be less reliable). When you say to clean the ignition switch is that more involved than squirting a shot of wd down the slot? So can i set a direct feed into the system as per this video:
  13. Yes I didn’t have a dedicated charger for my odyssey, so ill grab one at the earliest opportunity. I checked the ignition switch and all the wiring looked fine. I’ve managed to acquire loads of spare relays but none are the high current badgers- i recall searching for some but they weren’t available in the uk. When you mention adding a relay, where would that be?
  14. Well I fitted a new starter today and it cranks the engine fine now. However it’s still sometimes just clicking without cranking…. sounds like the solenoid is firing but can take a few presses of the button to actually spin up. Could it just be a low battery? Or some crud in the button i’m thinking… Hmm
  15. Hello mate yes I have the screen
  16. i had an odd moment today where i could not find the 13mm socket… but in scrabblin about found 3, yes 3, 10mm sockets. All of which will no doubt go on a quest together over winter
  17. i thought it was a drop in current- almost started to check/pull apart/adjust/butcher the wiring system. doccs suggestion to check the starter magnets was champion- un-doing a few nuts+bolts revealed the issue.
  18. It was the starter magnets. 2 of them had come loose and were jammed up against the casing. Of course, I had checked the main earth point, forward bullet connectors and ignition switch first, naturally…. but yeah the starter was proper mullered! Got a dessert spoons worth of rust and magnetic debris when i opened it. No wonder it was getting hot. Thanks again docc!
  19. Right o. If, when i pulled the starter, and bridged the contacts to check it, it seemed to fire and spin normally, would that rule out magnet problems?
  20. I did not no- but i will this weekend, thanks docc. One other thing i didn’t mention earlier was that occasionally the bike exhibits the ‘click, no start’ issue too. So i’ll be looking into sorting a go-winkie out i suppose.
  21. Hi fellas, I’m just struggling to identify a starting issue, hoping you can shed light on it. On the face of it the starter is very sluggish to turn. I had it off the bike and it did seem to function fine, so i refitted it, cleaned the connections, fitted a new pc545, and re-crimped all relays at the base (as there were a few bad connections and some were being pushed back out of the blocks). The starter solenoid flicks fine but is extremely laboured on spinning. It got very hot quite quickly too. The PO had bypassed the safety circuit by cutting and tying the white wires together. Am I looking at a problem with the ignition switch? Or could the starter be on it’s way out? Appreciate any pointers!
  22. Gutsibits have new ones.
  23. if you google ballabio or cafe sport you’ll see it- mine’s in the grey colour.
  24. No probs, got to work today but will have a rummage later.
  25. Hi Brian, I have a ballabio fairing if that meets your needs? Got the mount for it too- all in excellent condition.
