I've paid for thirty but production will probably be Tuesday so I'm thinking of upping the order to forty. I don't mind carrying a few and I've had several direct orders which I don't know are included in Scud's group or not. Does 40 sound sensible? Once I have them in hand I'll box 'em up and start shipping. Pete

Gilardoni manufacture all the OE barrels for a host of manufacturers including Guzzi. It's not who makes them that is really the issue its the coating on the barrels which is Nicasil, an electroplated Nickel Silicon amalgam that is virtually indestructible. So while the original Guzzi barrels may not say 'Gilardoni' on them they were manufactured and plated by Gilardoni. Pete

I'm in NSW, I can easily post direct within Oz, with gaskets. I'm simply not willing to pay the upfront costs of producing a run of plates that will sit on the shelf for yonks. Pete

OK, if I order thirty V11 plates I can do them for $120AU each. If I order five or ten 'Tonti' type plates which will do early Sports/Daytonas and Bellagios too they will be $140 each. Postage will be on top of that. I won't order until I recieve payment and won't ship until that is covered. Pete

At the end of the day it makes no difference. When someone approached the plagiarisers they were told that they 'Don't respond to Internet rumours' or some such bollocks so I just say @#!#$# them and the horse they rode in on. As it is I've moved on and am far more involved and interested in rectifying and sorting out the 8V motor's problems. I haven't got enough life left to waste worrying about lowlife thieving assholes. As I said, having to live in Huddersfield is punishment enough. Pete

My guess is that the dealership didn't have a cup wrench that would fit through the 'Manhole' in the sump pan and only installed it as tight as they could with their fingers. I've seen it a lot. Pete

Nah, the original uses a pathetic little flappy foot with a weedy spring. The forces on it easily overcome the spring so the chain still lashes about, it just doesn't chop a hole in the side of the timing chest. The Valtech 'Blade' tensioner exerts a much more meaningful force on the chain. Yes it will rob a tiny amount of power but in the scheme of things it's a no brainer. Pete

Mid 2012 they started getting rollers. That is the big ticket item. My advice to anyone wanting an 8V is if it is a flat tappet bike? Discount it by two grand unless it's been rollerised. Yes, I know this is a radical change from my previous views but it is based on new, reliable, observations and data rather than hysterical screeching by fuquetards who think history ended in 1976. Most of Mark's, (Beetle's) work and comments on pipe suitability are based on the 8V. On that motor mapping the Zard is, harder than most, let us say. The 2V is a much gentler thing , in fact de-tuned from the V11. It's a great bike though. I owned mine for two years and loved it. I just love the 8V more, despite its early problems. In comparison the 1100 is a taxi! Pete

No separate part # for pushrod so I think they are the same. You will need to change the gearbox input boss though, the single plate boss is way to short in the splines. I believe I actually have the correct one in stock if you can find out the spline depth, I have one of most types but I can't remember which is which! If someone could measure the spline depth of a 'Standard' twin plate V11 hub I can confirm. Pete

No, I don't get pissed off, don't get me wrong, I'll happily argue a point with someone who is intelligent. It's fucktards who know nothing that wind me up! You do make valid points about pressure per se, if a bearing couldn't wedge without pressure all those horrid stationary motors that use a spoon on the big end rod eye to lubricate the big end journal wouldn't work but as long as the oil is pressurised the higher the pressure the greater the strength of the wedge, it works as a multiplier. The wedge is a rolling wave-form that is created at the point of greatest pressure within the bearing. The smaller the clearance the greater the strength of the wedge. The problem is that friction between the molecules being forced together creates heat, the only way to prevent the heat building up to levels where the oil will break down is to have adequate throughput and it is for that reason that for plain bearings pressure rather than volume per-se is important. Plain bearings are always a compromise and the oil is there to provide three functions, to cool, to lubricate and to clean. Without adequate throughput the oil won't be able to remove enough heat and the oil will break down allowing boundary lubrication. Without adequate pressure the wedge will be inadequate to prevent boundary lubrication. It's always a juggling act and a 'Rule of thumb' WRT bearing clearance is one thou for every inch of journal diameter. Obviously the larger the number and size of journals and bearings to be lubricated the greater the volume of oil required but adequate pressure is vital to the longevity of the bearings and their tolerance to inadequacy will depend greatly on the forces imposed on the oil film and the relative speed of the bearing/journal surfaces. This is the main reason why it is almost always the big ends that will go first in an engine with inadequate oil pressure. The old pushrod engine has six plain bearings, front and rear mains, big ends and cam bearings. The Nuovo Hi-Cam has eight, mains, big ends and two sets of cam bearings but I'd guess that the actual bearing surfaces are much the same size. The main reason for the larger lubrication pump on the 8V though is probably the under piston crown sprays. Crack pressure on the OPRV on the 8V is also slightly higher I believe. The cooling pump on the 8V runs very low pressure but lots of volume in comparison. Pete

Absolutely 100% incorrect. The exact opposite is true. Pressure is the most vital factor in the oil being able to form a wedge. Volume is needed for cooling but pressure is the vital ingredient. If the 25PSI figure quoted by the OP is accurate then one or other of the major bearings is seriously compromised. The reasons for this are well known. Pete

Sorry to be late to chime in on this but the long and the short of it is that finding out that someone had not just copied my plate but doppelgängered it even down to using the rather odd plate thickness, (Chosen simply because my cutter had some left over plate that thick that I could get for a knock down price.) really pissed me off. If they had simply gotten in touch with me and asked me how they could go about getting some or if I would mind if they started producing them and simply gave me a small 'Gratuity' on every sale I would probably of said "Sod the gratuity, just give $5.00 from every sale to Medicines sans frontiers and good luck with it." But I wasn't asked and I knew that when dealing with thieves expecting them to stand by their word would be compounding the stupidity, it would just give them an opportunity to add an extra five but to the product for them to pocket and crow about how wonderful they were. That, along with the fact that any time I go to market with a self designed product, (Another example being my remote breather systems for the water intrusion prone CARC bevel boxes on the more modern bikes.) I invariably get told it's too expensive and within a few days someone else comes up with an inferior, but invariably cheaper, alternative and slags me off as a rip-off merchant. The thing is I live in Australia. Things ARE more expensive in Australia, for a variety of reasons. I can assure people I'm not farting through silk on the sale of a few aftermarket products for obsolete and comparatively rare Italian motorbikes! At the end of the day I'm afraid I'm over it. With the recent decline in the value of the $AU I might revisit lop page sheet production but I still don't think, once postage is added, that I can compete with the thieves in Huddersfield. So unless people would like to club together and put in a bulk, (Over ten.) order for plates from me I'm afraid I'm done with them. Sorry. At the moment I am very tied up in addressing problems with and helping perfect the fuelling on W5AM equipped Guzzis and will hopefully be able to help Paul and Christian with data to allow further access to and development of the wonderful Guzzidiag suite of tools to enable them to be used with both the MUIG3 and 7SM controllers used on the Cali 14 and V7 series machines, I'm also very busy with 8V Guzzi work, a design I not only love but love working on, I have very little to do nowadays with pre-Piaggio machines and although I have some pretty big gripes with the company's business and management strategy I like the bikes too much to throw in the towel! Anyway, sorry to all the loyal V11 owners, and as I said, buy in bulk and I'll happily do another run but it's a fair investment of my limited capital to produce a run of plates and they sometimes sit for months costing me money, but I have to admit that I was more than a little pissed off by the plagiarism and I simply gave up. Same problem caused by shitty system where electrons have to go through the ignition switch and run up and down the bike twelvety times before doing their job. Direct feed to yellow wire on starter relay. As long as earths are clean,mend of problem. Pete PS. The same system has been used forever. It's always sucked but they won't changenit. -
