  1. No steel flywheel for the single plater. Lightweight twin plater used in standard V11's is steel. Pete
  2. I really, really can't see why people persist with the old single plater or the RAM. The amount of extra rotating mass is really minimal when compared to a last generation twin plater. If you're really keen you can lighten the steel flywheel off a final generation twin plater or even go for a lightened alloy flywheel, (Which I used for a couple of decades, including in our race bike which made more power than your average V11.). Unless the RAM has changed they no longer supply an organic friction plate, the only option being a sintered bronze plate. These have always had a very, very limited life. If you're happy having the gearbox in and out like a rabbit's cock on the vinegar stroke? Go Fer yer life! But honestly I have to say I think it's a bit of a fruitless chase. YOMV. Pete

  5. Classic problem. The trigger and delivery feed both come from a wire that runs up and down the bike a half dozen times. The voltage drop is so extreme that the solenoid terminals foul. Use a fused wire directly from the battery positive terminal to the delivery side of the relay. Problem solved. Pete
  6. Few 'Known issues'. Essentially same package as the Norge but without the fairing. Make sure nobody has interfered with the throttle stop screws or the linkage rod. Only a maximum of one of the air bleeds should be open. Find out if the swingarm bearings and shock linkage bearings have ever been greased? They are rarely done well ex factory so factor that into the price. Check the condition of the Ti coating on the front fork staunchions, it was prone to peeling on early models. Idle speed should be around 1150-1200 RPM and is stepper controlled. If the idle speed is higher or lower a shaved ape has tried to change it mechanically, (See first note about idle stop screws and linkage rod.) run away! Pete
  7. Yup, there are lots of 112-115HP Grisos out there. I've ridden with a few. Strangely enough none of them seem to go significantly faster than mine which produces *About 100* at the rear wheel. I weigh a good ten KG more than most of their riders too and my bike uses significantly less petrol. Only mods are a Mistral Hi-Pipe with a dB killer installed and a custom map but if people want to keep drinking the Kool-aid............. Pete

I've given up arguing the toss with people over the suitability of aluminium alloys for timing gears as it always seems that their advocates have borderline personality disorders.   10. Nah. I don't want to start a shitstorm. I am going to contact them and say that I'm not happy and that 'Their' product is obviously plagiaristic, in fact it's an exact copy! I'll state that I know I have no legal recourse as I have no patent and prosecuting a case for copyright or intellectual property would be prohibitively expensive but will ask if they would like to ask about some form of licensing agreement or at least discuss some sort of restitution. If I'm told to @#!#$# off or ignored then the gameplan changes. Pete

  12. I certainly don't want retribution. As I Said on WG there is more than enough shit in the world at the moment! It's just how easy would it to have been to phone me? My number is lazer etched on all of my plates along with my company logo. They would of had one of each type as they are perfect doppelgängers. I was never going to get wealthy making them and selling them I can assure you. In fact I give more money to the Salvation Army every Christmas than I make on the plates . I was dwelling on this as I was driving over to Wagga Wagga to pick up my Griso. You know what is wonderful? This evening I'll be back in my little village sitting on the verandah of the top pub. I'll quaff a few ales and then Jude and I accompanied by my daughter will join our trivia team and we'll thrash our deadly enemies the Double X team and indulge in a lot of furious gloating and good hearted piss taking before we all adjourn home where Erika has made a huge salad and Pesto pasta. We'll sit on the verandah watching the fireflies and have a couple of quiet wines or a scotch nightcap before we turn in........ And the plagiarists will STILL be in Huddersfield! Life's good! Pete
  13. Zooter, no need. It's all good. I'm not annoyed with anybody who bought one. Simply pissed off that this vendor has such a cavalier attitude to stealing other people's ideas. It's not like it's a similar device. It's an exact copy. I'll take a picture of one of my originals later and people can compare it to the Pommy product. They've even used the same thickness plate which I originally used because it was cheaper left over stock, 1.8mm rather than 2mm which I'd originally specified! It's such blatant plagiarism and theft is what pisses me off.
  14. Look, I really don't think it's worth pursuing. Certainly the cost of doing so would far outstrip any return. It just grates that such open, flagrant theft has occurred. There's even photos of both of my designs on their web page. Bottom dwellers. It's not that it's immoral, it's that its amoral. And just openly contemptuous, "Hey, that's a great idea. A few years ago I designed and manufactured a baffle plate for the V11 series bikes, they have been a slow and steady seller and I didn't make a lot of money on them but they did prevent the motors torching their big ends. Well I got an enquiry about one from New Zealand a few days ago so I organized the gaskets and plate and gave the bloke a quote only to be told that he had decided to buy from a mob in the UK because they were a few dollars cheaper. A quick visit to their website reveals that 'Their' plate is in fact an identical copy of mine, even down to the shape of the dipstick hole. I don't even get a Guernsey for the design. I wonder if I could sue them for theft of intellectual property? This sort of shit really doesn't make a bloke feel like giving out help and advice..... Pete
  16. Cams and tappets are fed by splash, plate won't help there. If the adjuster won't take up the slack though the only real option unless the pushrod has collapsed is a buggered cam and tappet. Pete
  17. As Phil says, stick a boron ball hone through 'em, stones and scotch brite won't touch Nicasil. While the pics are a bit hard to see the skirt look like they have seized. With compression of 80 and 120 with the throttle wide open you know they are f*cked. New barrels and pistons are the way to go, Mike Rich's stuff works well. What is important though is to find out WHY it seized in the first place? Its damn near impossible to seize a piston in Nicasil. Something must be seriously out of whack with the tuning to make it run that lean! Pete

  21. Latest model apparently has gone to a 'Conventional' bike alternator running internal to the cases. Why? Who knows but my guess would be a combination of parts interchangeability with other models, (It will be the same Alt used on most of the Aprilia range I guarantee.) and cost. As far as I know the smallblock Guzzis are probably the last bike in the world to use an external, crank mounted Alt. If Ducati Electronica are only producing the unit for one machine with a run of a few thousand a year its obviously not going to be in their interest to keep producing it so they will of kept jacking the price up. Now the camel's back has broken and its cheaper for Piaggio to re-design the timing chest rather than paying the premium for an obsolete part. Pete

I just spend far too much time fixing shit that has been #@$&@#@ up by people who don't know what they're doing and then being told that every human advance since the abandonment of the 'Hunter/Gatherer' existence has been awful by the same people. I just know that lurking around the corner will be some pinhead about to launch into a spittle-flecked rant about how terrible 'New' Guzzis are. I just wanted to take a pro-active stance. One of the things I really like about the single TB Smallblocks is there is virtually nothing for 'Harry Hometune' to mess with and screw up! Oh, you can still try to but it takes concerted effort to do so! Pete
  25. Those who refuse the lessons of history are compelled to repeat them. The same is true of those who refuse to accept new technology. Yes, we can look at stuff and say "Oooh! That's difficult.". The thing is it isn't. Its just different and needs different tools to make it function. I'm virtually 'Computer illiterate" but I have learnt what I need to learn for my trade and have also found people with serious skills who can help me conquer those areas I'm hazy on. If you 'Retro Engineer' constantly you'll end up with no vehicles that rely on internal combustion, or external combustion, or even beast powered! For @#!#$#'s sakes! Get over it! Don't waste. Don't conspicuously consume just because you can but also accept that it may in an overall way be better to adopt a 'Use and Replace' philosophy with things like vehicles. As long as they are recycled and their historical relevance is recorded and preserved the idea that there is something intrinsically 'Wrong' with technological advance is pathetic, ignorant and stupid. We, 'Humans', have large supra-orbital lobes, opposable thumbs and are quite clever. Cleverness has made us the planet's alpha predator and may even be sowing the seeds of our own destruction but my belief is that cleverness is what will save us. We won't be saved by a whole lot of Luddites who spend their whole time locked into a 'Mosquito in Amber' mindset of some sort of fucking 'Go.den Age'! The great thing about the 'Good Old Days' is the fact they are gone! Remember them fondly but don't ever think they are some sort of 'Way Forward'! Pete (Fully expecting to be flamed by pinheads!)
