  1. From the opening shots I thought it was our very own Wambiker on his Green V11 for he was 29 once.
  2. One of the wires within my ignition switch came adrift. Could take the switch off and re solder up. added a small piece of extra wire in order to do so. They obviously aren't security bolts used to mount the switch. My symptoms gradually got worse over several days and came to a head when at the Erin Rally in 06. I first noticed that the tacho and speedo lights would flicker, initially when the bars where moved from dead ahead and then all the time. Obviously this was only apparent when riding in the dark. Didn't seem to be evident when stationary or engine off - vibration related. When being followed by others in Ireland I was told my rear light was flickering, obviously the connection making and breaking. It also deprived me of indicators, but still had head light (doubt the position light - but who cares about that never use it on its own) and brake light. DID NOT EFFECT STARTING When I've had starting issues was traced to: 1- Side stand switch - got sticky - spray with WD40 and push in and out several times 2- Faulty neutral switch - replaced (underwarranty at same time they did oil pressure switch and rear shock - old thread refers) 3- POOr connections under the tank - the two bullets to the LHS - respond to the bar wiggle - subsequent clean up. 4- Blown fuse - issues with regulator/connection - bit chicken and egg - again another old thread hope some of above is of some use to you
  3. I think that's the part he referring to. Doesn't feature in the parts book= not on the above page or the one with the intake/air box ot the throttle cable page
  4. Yes - So much so I felt compelled to have this photo taken - A pair of Fat Boys notice the V11 Cafe Racer T shirt No - I think I might make it a sticky (pin it to the top of the list)
  5. They must be real people and not spam as they don't live in google. It's just a coincidence that no sooner has Sammy joined and told us about this fantastic company and logged off - obviously very busy and not able to post on any other topic - then Luca joins and only has time to post on the newest thread which he/she has coincidently used. Just think of the odds on that? I wonder if William Hill would run a book on it? Sammy didn't provide a hot link so here it is
  6. In respect to that photo - and my moderating options - did I need to do anything? I'd previously seen the series elsewhere and they're not pleasant, this is probably one of the more palatable. The image posted is small so no detail, but big enough so you know what you're letting your self in for should you decide to enlarge. It is also in context for the post (other than no Harley and rider wearing helmet - doo rag in back pocket). So I was happy for it to stay and not replace it with a NSFW link. But as it's raised some other issues I had a look for the series and the first set I found was here there is a link to the local news web site and from there abstract of the police report So it appears not to be survivable or an elaborate internet hoax.
  7. Good to see you're taking it on the chin in good humour - this list is new to me Each to their own - how it works for you is the important thing. Looks like a good job well carried out. Not to my (immediate) personal taste - if that mattered.
  8. Sorry I'm a bit late to the party. Glad your solution worked out. Whilst that is an option I would have mentioned it is fraught with pit falls, risk of criminal allegations made against you eg - Violence to secure entry for one. The return of supplied goods will basically be a civil matter and you may ultimately need a court order to enforce it. Always helps to have something on the bill of sale that items remain suppliers property until paid for in full. From there it's mainly a case of bluff who can convince they've the strongest case and will to enforce it - the risk of throwing good money after bad. There is a case stated precedent for a Garage having done work on a car can retain the vehicle until paid for, if the owner then removes it they are guilty of theft of their own vehicle. The police aren't primarily interested in you getting your property back. They're there to prevent breaches of the peace and then will look at the prosecution of offenders (though this should come third - preservation of life; protection of property; pursuit of offenders) There are no Home Office statistic to return for property protected. If you go to the police and tell them - That you supplied goods and they were paid with a cheque against a closed account and that they knew that at the time of writing the cheque and this was therefore deliberate and fraudulent under section 2 of the Fraud Act 2006 - You may have to spell it out depends on who you get at the call handling centre !!! The police are duty bound to record ( National Crime Recording Standards) and investigate your complaint of crime, some forces may screen out some complaints for various reasons eg not in public interest ie property returned etc, but in your case there is a named offender and a relatively easy "sanctioned Home Office detection" In the bad old days the police would have probably dismissed this as an unsatisfactory business transaction and left it for you to deal civilly. But now they would have to take some action, but be prepared to give up some of your time initial complaint statement and that it might go to court and be required to attend to give your evidence in person. Disclaimer- this is just how I see it, and is my personal opinion not that of any Police force - As always seek professional legal advice - that way you've got somebody to sue
  9. 176 miles are you suggesting we come back for breakfast? Don't forget in 06 I did 720 miles around the far north of Scotland on the Saturday. Though this year I plan to be more socialable and not do the RBR
  10. It's okay there's a television, you'll be safe

    Stelvio

That pick up must be a right POS. I get all* my tools for the V11 in a 2 litre Tupperware box in my tank bag * The hammer excepted - the shaft is just too long
  12. My favorite importer was Coburn and Hughes can't think of why, it was 25 years later I bought my Guzzi and they were no longer the importer.
  13. Welcome Nan, No replies that's because they don't want to be accused of hitting on you. Off the top of my head there were a couple of recalls on the early V11's. One was in the gear box and I forget the second. But at 14K I'd have thought they'd been done. Other wise yes there are some issues but the best advice is to keep the oil fully topped up. You'll find it totally different to the VFR and probably initially wonder what you've done with this archaic lump of iron. But they do have a charm and produce enough real world performance and handling, and after a short while you'll either love or hate it. Talking of handling the early ones have the shorter frame and narrower rear wheel and have been accused of being a bit flighty or quick steering to the point of tank slapping. There's plenty of advice on here on how to set up the suspension for your weight and if you're a lighter rider it's probably worth heeding as the V11 benefits from more weight over the front. Being a fatty I just got on mine and bounce around.
  14. Bank is at fault shouldn't have authorised the Direct Debit. One would have to assume the signatures wouldn't match. Unless he uses the same signature for his book signing as his banking. Therefore the bank should refund him the money and then get it back from where it was paid to. The Data protection thing is bollocks (technical legal term) all the details are discloseable just have to send in the appropriate forms. In this case the person who created the direct debit had it paid into a third party account (charity) and not one of their own. Unless you can create a bank account in bogus details, create several of these direct debits from several accounts at once. Empty the cash out as soon as it comes in. You're unlikley to get away with it as is traceable back to you. It's as always the return/risk balance, it surprising how low some peoples price is, perhaps it's the lack of deterant in sentancing and what you stand to lose. But again the signature is the clincher and how vigarous the banks systems. I like Clarkson. Can't take him too seriously but good fun. I hope he leaves the £500 there.
  15. 99 Words for Boobs a parody song with video
  16. Today I'm reminiscing through the wonders of you tube - Styx, Kilroy was here. This was brought about by the kids watching Shrek 2 and at the end Pinocchio does Mr Roboto in the Far Far away Pop Idol scene. I announced I've got the album that songs from on vinyl. They looked blank. I had to go through this before, with the 16 year old, when Debby Harry had her come back with the single Maria, at least then I had a turn table I could put Parallel Lines onto. Not quite 40 years but getting on for 25.
  17. Today my travels took me to the Priory in Dunstable and I took the opportunity to reflect in front of the memorial there. A long time ago I signed up prepared to give all. I perhaps naively believed it would only be in a necessary just cause, and that I'd be looked after. These days there are things that are more precious to me, but for the sake of them I would if necessary, though I don't think they'd want me. I'd only ask that I'd not be spent cheaply, I'm not sure that consideration was given at the turn of the century. Perhaps with age and experience I have developed cynicism and lost moral courage. The one piece of disquiet I have is that there perhaps isn't the support system and funding to look after those who are injured and maimed or left behind. To me this is the breach of trust, it's all that is asked by those who go into harms way. It is different than those who are victims of crime or accidents. My third sentence does not imply that I think our current "involvements" are unjust. There are flaws in the deployment but overall I still believe there is more good than bad. It was my belief at 19.
  18. I could use my moderator powers to remove this post but as it's a frontal on picture it can stay and I'd say [cough] body armour [cough] Edit - Bike looks clean and shiney
  19. Last years was dire with none of Piagios and no shopping list or rather no money This year seems to promise more of the same Though I'll be going. I've got to get some Aprillia tat for Ben and it's a day out on the bike, otherwise I wouldn't bother. Hope the warmish spell lasts.
  20. Keith, Bike looks as good as ever. Good chance to make the most of the mild spell we're having. On the increasing performance issue You could lose a couple of inches out of your legs you don't really need to be that tall, and I'm going to remove all the pictures of me before Dave has a go.
  21. Put me down also for the rear wheel bearings, a clunk at low speed was the first indicator I had that mine had gone.
  22. I had a request from from someone else and as it had been freshly moved in to my domain I obliged.
  23. Un pinned as requested Tempted to send it back to the Wanted personal adds as BMG wants a wife , and as marriage isn't a laughing matter, but I supose saying you do is a "silly remark" Hope my wife doesn't read this
  24. It makes the beer warm The problem is that I've got to seize the evidence One in each hand
