  1. I wish it was that easy
  2. Gill, Did you glue your mystery object back on? The lack of the rubber bit is the reason mine doesn't ground despite being on out the box suspension settings and a sylphlike 250lbs plus kit. (aided by wussy cornering also)
  3. I hadn't got around to it, but thanks for the prompt. I initially thought I had been cloned, as I couldn't remember that particular journey. But from the picture I can tell it was me.
  4. I was working as a starting point of backwards from the Yamaha RD200DX which I've got still in my mums garage, it has a strange mix of indicators square on front and round at rear The motocrosser I was looking at Bultacco Pursang (the blue colour) but the cylinder head has radial fining which reminds me of Maico but the yellow frame Huskvana - so I'm stumped on that The purple thing in the back , haven't a clue but dates it to early seventies The black one to the right I'd go for a ZZR Kawasaki but I'm not sure because of the upside down forks. I've not got very far ...............yet
  5. It's not hard, some of the landmarks can be tricky. Some you can find out what they are, what they look like and where exactly they are before you go others you can't do all three, some you do blind and just look when you get there. The rest is how far you want to ride in a day. Here you go these were the closest ones to you - These are the clues as given: County; Landmark; Location 1 Bedfordshire; 2 village pumps and well; Old Walden 2 Berkshire; Pair of boundry stones; Padworth 4 Buckinghamshire; The Diamond Jubilee well; Lee Common 5 Cambridgeshire; Water Mill (NT); Houghton 17 Gloucestershire; "Old Father Thames" statue; Lechlade 21 Hertfordshire; Village pump and sign post ; Hexton 35 Oxfordshire; Tom Browns School; Uffington 46 Wiltshire; George V coronation monument; Pewsey See how you get on researching those. This is how I did: 1,4 and 21 did blind 2and 5 located on an OS map - used getamap.co.uk 17and 35 a bit of clues from the internet cross related to map, ie near a feature and that feature is on the map 46 as above and then subsequent attention to detail revealed I'd gone to wrong feature but had seen the correct one If you ride to the "blind" locations you should find the landmark unless someone has parked a van in the way obscuring your line of sight. Number 2 would be an exception and needs the map work. The picture are in the relevent link on each trip report. Other features were castles and other bloody obvious thing some were a bit more elusive. But between Google and Getamap and Multimap could find most with degrees of certainty.

A beautiful Blue (Norwegian?) but definitely not dead (yet).
  7. You may have seen my Thread on the 2005 Round Britain Rally but if you've not and would rather find more about the event try here - www.roundbritainrally.co.uk A photographic and touring event for motorcycles held between April and October. You can do as much or as little as you wish. I know there are some here who dabbled last year. So whilst it can be addictive for those with obsessive compulsive disorders I did 5,600 miles over 12 days to visit all the points. But YOU don't have to. It starts in a little over a month and the landmark list will be published just before then. So now is the ideal time to send off. It's a good opportunity to find out a little more about our country and visit some places you perhaps wouldn't ordinarily. So join up and post your trip reports here (but no photos of landmarks till November). Please don't let me be Norman No Mates this year.
  8. The good news - This should be my last post in this thread - stop cheering. We had the prize giving and dinner last night. Here is my plaque The bad news - There's less than 5 weeks untill the 2006 rally starts, with the landmarks issued in 3-4 weeks. Time for a New Thread
  9. The second man was recounting the time he tried to make love to his wife without getting her out the wheelchair and caught his testicles in the spokes
  10. I couldn't get the caliper above the master cylinder. But by removing it and raising it so that the bleed nipple is upermost does help the air rise to the top and out . In it's standard position it's the lowest point so air will allways try to rise away from it. Unless you can force clean fluid backwards through the system and out the master cyclinder you will almost certainly trap air/old fluid. I think that the master cyclinder actually displaces quite a small volume of fluid per stroke so this makes it more important to elevate the caliper/bleed nipple. I suppose you can achieve the same thing with the clutch without disconecting the slave cylinder by doing it on your porch steps. Rear wheel at top, front at bottom. (Don't try this at home kids - you will get a bodge point)
  11. Sorry about Granny's eggs For those who are separated by a common language Expression is "Teaching your Grandmother to suck eggs" ie Tell me something I didn't know Going back to the G&T
  12. Yeah seen SFGUZZI's post, Has separate reservoirs and master cylinder for each system, unlike your cage which even if it has dual systems will have a single reservoir. Bloody obvious if you know but not if you've started on cages.
  13. Sorry don't know exactly what a speed bleeder is, but I have what I would term as a one way valve on the end of a bit of hose. a-remove seat take top of reservoir 1-For the rear disconnect the caliper from its mount. 2-Wedge something to stop the pads closing completely 3-Position so that the bleed nipple is uppermost - I had a large 17mm open end spanner that did both 2&3 with other end wedged between gear lever and foot peg. 4-connect hose to bleed nipple place other end into glass jar with brake fluid in bottom , so covers end of hose, valve is a bonus but not essential - old fluid is acceptable at this point. Will need to stand bottle on suitable object depending on length of hose. I used old car battery, heavy but acceptably conveniently to hand. 5-Handy to have second person available at this point but can manage without esp if have one way valve. 6- Depress brake pedal and hold 7-open bleed nipple - watch bubble of air go up tube 8-close bleed nipple 9-release bleed nipple 10- repeat steps 6-7 inc ad nauseum - easier with two persons and or one way valve remembering to top up reservoir with fresh fluid before the hole is exposed if a one way valve thing is fitted steps 6&7 interchangeable, and can tell how well you're doing as gets nice and firm continue until nice clean fluid comes out hose or no air bubbles emitted, or boredom threshold reached whatever comes last. 11-close bleed nipple, release brake, top up reservoir. push pads back, remount caliper, pump brakes, top up reservoir, test ride. Easy with the assistance of the Becky should only take 10mins of her time as long as can follow the instructions Push, Hold & Release. If you can modify instructions to do front calipers you have learn't how to do brake bleeding.
  14. Comparable finish to my 2003 V11 Lemans. I now have a 1 euro sized hole where the paint blistered and fell off on the rocker box. It matches the bevel box, oil pan, engine case, alternator cover.... well I do insist on riding it all year and clean it every quarter whether it needs it or not.
  15. For those in Ireland who enviously read my Round Britain Rally escapades and wished that they could do something similar without running the "how much will it cost to get across the Irish Sea Lottery" There was a post on the RBR forum advising of an Irish photographic rally. You will notice that it is run by the BMW owners club. But is open to other marques. They've published the landmark list and the fee is only payable if you submit photographs. It is titled the "Boyne Riders Photographic Rally" I don't know it that signifies a sectarian affiliation or just the geographical location. It's a good job I've booked my ferry for the Erin and off to Germany the following weekend or I might have considered doing this around the Erin. Well there's always next year.
  16. Welcome on board Dave
  17. Looking after the baby tonight? I see you've borrowed TX's old crib for Catalina. Nice touch with the desk lamp to have available to turn on to shine into her eyes to make her close them and go back to sleep. This parenting thing isn't too hard is it. No so sure about the Rust-oleum, what propellant does it use?
  18. A rare bird mine flew south a long time ago. not my most helpful post. But not mocking. (other than the quality of paint and length of mudguard) I'm always amazed by the cleanliness of everyone's bikes when they post pictures of theirs, puts me to shame. But Gil you're only just back on the road after 6? months. ride the bloody thing and get one in the post.
  19. A turn-out is a section of paved (or at least graded) surface off to the side of the 2 lane roadway situated such that slow drivers can easily exit, pause, & reenter the roadway in order to allow the 2 miles of traffic they're holding up behind them to pass! 79110[/snapback] Thank you. We don't have them. Shouldn't the sticker be in reverse on the front? We have passing places on single track roads in the wilds Highlands of scotland.
  20. Best make it after supper. Didn't get in till gone 8 on both nights
  21. The best way to strip the paint is to let me ride it for two years.
  22. Whilst I'm not old enough to remember it I'm at least aware of it and I love the wavy blue bottom portion just to jog the memory(if needed) EDit , just noticed the car
  23. Tickled me and I've not even been drinking.
  24. Thank you. You are most kind. Don't forget you read it here (http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4625) first as it unfolded. Don't worry this years starts on 1st April so won't belong before the next installment of [1950s serialisation announcer] "Martin Barrett Round Britain Rallyer" [/1950s serialisation announcer] as I open a new thread on 1st of March
  25. Long time no see Slug, but what a classic to come back with
