  1. Loved the quote I've expressed my concerns re Section 59, In my area it seems to be predominantly used on minimotos and nuisance youths on mopeds. Minimotos I have no problem with at all - WTF are you using it in the street for! My concern is with the scooter boys - Mr Smith who lives over the shops and complains all the time about the kids hanging about, there may be antisocial usage of their mopeds. Buy the time we turn up the offenders may have left. Leaving Master Bates there on his moped chatting to his mates. The PCSO turns up under pressure to do something and with out witnessing any wrong doing can issue the warning. Second time it's good by (temporarily anyway) moped. At the moment you'd have to be having a fair lick on to have a dangerous driving to go with an excess speed. There is some pressure regarding motorcycle usage in some of the more rural areas, currently concentrating on noisy pipes and speeding in villages (rightly so on both accounts anti social and dangerous) Move the emphasis to speeding elsewhere (e.g national speed limits)make the equation excess speed is without consideration and likely to cause distress, get caught. Have a section 59 regardless of how the speed is dealt with (warning, ticket, summons). A marker goes on the PNC against your registration. Get caught speeding anywhere in the next 12 months and you have a marker showing a speed based section 59 and my money is on your bike being towed. Remember there is no appeal against a the warning and no conviction in court is required. Think that's unlikely these twits got their warning apparently justly (but witnessed by who and corroborated?) but seems was a straight excess speed caused their cars to be towed. Okay the European Human Rights Act says all powers should be proportionate and reasonable so you can go down that route once the deed is done. There is a lot of political pressure to use these powers, they're not too bothered at the collateral damage when they can quote numbers of nuisance motorists taken off the road. Perhaps I'm too old school and don't trust some of my colleagues. In my current role I don't order the removal, I just call the garage. Just following orders. How does that make me feel (draw your own historic parallels)
  2. Because they're done just for looks with no regard for tuned length or anything else
  3. See the link on "STRING"
  4. It's not just NZ here in UK (England and Wales - Scotland has separate legislation) Section 59, Police Reform Act Under section 59, police constables in uniform, that have reason to believe, that a motor vehicle is being used in a manner that causes or is likely to cause alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public, under Section 3 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 (Careless and inconsiderate driving), or Section 34 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 (Driving on land other than a road), have the power to do the following: - Powers - The Power to seize and remove the Motor Vehicle - Power, if the Motor Vehicle is moving, to order the person driving it to stop the vehicle - Power to enter a premises to gain access to Motor Vehicle, on reasonable grounds that the Motor Vehicle is believed to have been involved in any of the following behaviour (in a manner that causes alarm, distress or annoyance) Where necessary, reasonable force may be exercised in the use of these Powers. Conditions for seizure A constable shall not seize a motor vehicle unless a first warning has been issued, unless a constable has proof that use of Motor Vehicle has continued or been repeated after the warning has been issued. There is no requirement to issue a warning where: - The circumstances make it impractical for him to give the warning - The constable has already given a warning for the use of that Motor Vehicle or any other, by that person or any other - The constable has reason to believe that a warning has been given by someone else - The constable has reason to believe that the person using the motor vehicle, is a person who has already received a warning under the same subsection (in respect of the same vehicle or the same or similar use) on a previous occasion in the previous 12 months The bit that concerns me is "The reason to believe" and there is no appeal or necessity for proceedings to be taken under either Section 3 or 34 RTA and a conviction to be obtained. Especially so that the power is devolved to PCSOs (Police Community Support Officers). I'm not sure that the power is always used proportionately
  5. When I collected mine it was also chucking it down with rain. I ended up overtaking a 748 on the way back (more to do with rider confidence in the wet to pick ones way through traffic). Yes it gives ultimate performance away to most middleweights and definitely 1100cc bikes. But it has enough and is usable. But most of all it's fun.
  6. I now have a piece of string in mine
  7. Wouldn't direct link for me but once gone in to it Couldn't make it out because of all the glare off the releflected sunlight
  8. Thinking along the line of "Greater than the SUM of their parts"
  9. I agree would have been better if could have gone from the headers, change the collector box so still looked like two pipes still or if wanted to retain a proper collector box exit out the on to the other side and then split back into two. But I'm no expert on aesthetics
  10. Mine is bolted down at the corners through rubber washers/blocks. Thet therefore have holes through the middle.
  11. Yep it's just glued on to the bolt. If you must have one I'd go down Steve's route rather than get a new one. I manage okay with out.
  12. It wasn't very well attended last year with only Chris (UKV11) (with Jane on her Nevada) ;Antonio (with friend Dennis on his monster) and myself from this board attending. A couple of stray Guzzis also attended with several Buells and a few others. But as you know the riding is excelent SO IT'S WORTH MAKING THE EFFORT TO GO! I will be doing what I did last year incorporating the RBR (see page 2 if your intrested) and staging via my sisters in Penrith. It was very demanding on time to get all the points in so most likely won't meet up with you till the evening in the bar . If you fancy an early start please join me on my treasure hunt.
  13. Not too much wrong with yours. They've got you penciled in for rain on Friday only. How's the leg didn't you get the Barometer upgrade fitted?
  14. This clashes with the BMF show. Never mind not going to the BMF will save me money, but will I miss out on the opportunity to purchase essential touring equipment. I've still to use the helmet I bought at last years. And I can take the day later in the year (with intrest) using the excuse that I missed the BMF. Hopefully she won't realise that I've already slipped another event in.
  15. I will be gettting my "trophy" I belive it's some sort of plaque. They rib the organiser on how quickly they fall apart I think it's more a taking part thing rather than for the glory and silverware Gary "Warmbiker" did some last year perhaps I can persuade him to join me around Scotland or on some other bits when in his area
  16. No. I think I'm all Guzzi'ed out with my plans for the year. I have Chris' Spean Bridge one and then a fortnight later the Erin and then the next weekend the German V11, throw in the RBR and the proposed 2 day Welsh Waltz 2. I'd dare not do this one 3 weeks before Chris'.
  17. You have till Sunday - The BBC says you'll have a break in the weather then.
  18. Glad to hear that he's safe. I look forward to his return. Still got the rest of the winter to get through, would be tough without him feeding the fires in our cabin.
  19. Now we've sorted the mystry rubber bit - [Dr Frankenstien voice] It's ALIVE [/Dr Frankenstien voice] ? Does she go? nudge nudge wink wink
  20. Part 11 is the piece I'm tthinking of. The rubber stop on the end of the bolt. The under tank cushions are two large dohnuts at the front and washers under the bolt at the rear, so its not one of those. I couldn't see any others on the parts diagram. There are under seat rubber bungs but mine (03) have holes in the middle so doesn't look like one of those, but you can obviously check to what your other ones are like. So I'd stick with my original guess. I can't measure mine as it fell off The added advantage is that it brings tha stand up so it no longer grounds when cornering ( like it did in the first place ) Sorry I don't love you enough to go and take my tank off and look further, as its now dark and raining and I want to ride it to work in a couple of hours. Are there quiz points at stake?
  21. If it's not one of the tank cushions. It could be the rubber side stand stop. Mine fell off- though it does look a bit large
  22. Argh , didn't realise it was a "Road Captain"(NWS) He's probably trying to advise you of the risk of an 18 wheeler overtaking his litter (is that the correct term for a group of Hogs) You just need slow much just to make sure you have an escape option/can stop in what you can (not reasonably assume) see to be clear Edit - seem to have a crossed wire with the definition of "Road Captain"
  23. Obviously you were there and I wasn't. But it's always difficult to know what his intention was. There may well have been a patrol further up the road which may have moved on by the time you got there; the stray animal may have gone back into the undergrowth; they finished exchanging details following the minor accident and left there are limitless reasons including lets piss off/slow down the racer jape. It never hurts to knock a bit off and pick up your observation*. In Wales last year (skip this paragraph if you've read my RBR reports) I was following at a distance a group of police riders. I got the slow down wave, which I ignore thinking it was for the bikes. Luckily I came across slower and oncoming traffic just as I went past the concealed speed camera van. I used ( devolved to new Highways Agency in December) to have control of the message (Matrix) signs on the motorways. These are infamous for "why was that on" - and then being ignored. They do get set for a reason, they are limited in what you can set and obviously they may not be exactly located where you want. And yes they do get left on I treat them as a indication that there may be something occurring ahead and just knock off a bit of speed and lift my observation*. Better safe than sorry but a bit of a pisser if it's through your favorite set of twisties. But if they're that good having done a sighting (lap) go back and do them properly * This obviously doesn't mean we're not looking previously
  24. The RBR prize giving and dinner is being held at The Manor Hotel which is part of the group that owns the National Motorcycle Museum. I will combine the trip to the prize giving with a trip to the museum. It's 26th February so here's hoping that the weather's improved.
  25. Yours is the most subtle. :thumbs up: and also has already happened. The others were too much like first aid instruction videos or "Casualty" ( BBCs version of ER - but you get the event leading to the admission) or even worse that Fork lift spoof where you know whats about to happen. I'm too sensitive - have too much empathy.
