  1. There are times when we are forced to adapt a tool or other item to suit another purpose. There is a subtle difference between ingenuity and bodging. Ingenuity – using a socket as a bearing drift Bodging - using a chisel as a screwdriver I am a bit of a Bodger My permanent repair on my tekno rack Tomorrow I will making a temporary repair using two Jubilee clips and a coke can over the blown out gasket between the balance pipe and header pipe, whilst waiting for the gaskets to arrive. Picture to be posted later Do you have any examples of ingenuity or bodging that you are prepared to share here
  2. Referee! That's below the belt Picking on a man with a broken shock And i'm about to start a bodge thread in the tech section as well
  3. You'd better make it from out of the sun. Those golden fork legs stand out well against the black in my mirrors. 'Tas how I could tell it was you during the Bromsgrove rideout, when you'd hang back and then charge through the bends catching up. and it's Mrs Ace - is that right for the plurral of Mr Ace With Guzzirider closing in fast and likely to be top scorer by the weekend
  4. You become an Ace with five
  5. I think it goes with guzzi ownership, a prerequisite being mental health issues. As far as the quizzes an obsessive compulsive disorder. My worse two are shopping trolleys, left higgedly piggedly in the trolley park bays. Where they’re just pushed in regardless of type and half a dozen fill the bay and the rest spill out. I’m forever stacking them by type; and jigsaws, when in the hospital with the boy, he will start a jigsaw, I make sure it’s completed if find any odd pieces I then try and find that jigsaw and do it to get all the pieces back. Not all my coats do up at the back
  6. over half an hour between guzziriders post landed and mine, i type slow, but it shows how sad i really am, in the time i spent on this
  7. With the gold fork legs, And I can't remember the colour of your helmet ( no not that one TX!) I assume the pic's of you on the scura. You're on the correct side of the road. UKish, AUS NZ or Japan, with the sea in the background. I'd guess on the TT course on the Isle of Man, Going the correct way around of course, so looking for a 170 degree right hander - was going to go for the ramsey hair pin , but isn't that in a built up area. a quick look at map of the course not much help , will try later. Also had a quick browse through your previous posts for a clue - nearly 900 posts did 23/34ths of them before gave up
  8. Bugger this is the one i was thinking of - lost a couple of cylinders
  9. Letting others have a go (they are also getting harder and I wasted enough hours and been a bit busy)
  10. Last nights results: Case 1- Reported DIC by MOP and followed for a bit, I was able to vector in a unit to intercept, a Dog Vehicle. Failed to stop. Brief chase through that town in to an estate area, a round in circles for a bit unable to shake dog off. As traffic car arrived decamped, nailed by dog handler. Police 1 up. Case 2- Spotted by local responce unit, very brief chase before vehicle eluded unit included two turn arrounds and drove at unit. Unfortunatly the local traffic car was out of position because of case 1 and helicopter weathered in. Shame as transpired to be stolen vehicle (larger sports hatch that the patrol car) from neighbouring force used in ram raid. Evens - though this would have counted as an away win Case 3- Different (the other) Dog reported older sports coupe at speed through village, unable to reacquire on turn around. I put an attention message out, no further sightings. No one really cared too much other than reporting officer who said he had lit his lights up so other driver would have seen them before disappearing out of view. Yeah the driver probably knew, and deffinatly put his foot down, but didn't really count as a fail to stop. Different league - Found the bit I mentioned above - BIKE Nov04
  11. Came across it making my way back from Jaap's International V11 meeting along the tops of the dykes beside the Waal (Rhine). I thought a good photo op.
  12. This thread has pictures of tekno bags fitted to mine plus the broken frame which can happen. They are a nice light usage piece of kit. For heavier usage I would go for the HB's considerably more expensive. motomecca supplied the tekno panniers I have a reputation for travelling light
  13. Best view of a Multistrada I've ever seen. Another beautifull piece of Italian Automotive design along with the Fiat Multipa ( very good but fugly)
  14. Only counts if verified by independant third party. ie Officer of the Law The traditional Advance driving course basically consist of making best progress in a safe manner with rigid observance of all traffic laws with the exception of national speed limits. Causes confusion amongst the public as this car hoons past at a great speed on the open road and then causes a tail back as hits speed limit. this is all done in unmarked vehicles. When I did mine 12 years ago we used 3.0 24v Vauxhall Senators and 4X4 Ford Sierras. I found the Senator very akin to sitting in an arm chair and playing a computer game, only visual imput, disconcerting when used to riding a bike where you are bombarded with sensual overload. The Sierra fantastic if you had it set up right blanced and driven through the bends, if not felt really horrid. Also drank like a fish. I failed my course with in 5 miles of starting the test drive. Two accounts of speeding crept above a 30 and 40 limit. Was a bag of nerves, drove like a granny on acid. When I came back for a recourse the whole ethos of driver training had changed and for my role didn't need an Advance ticket, was on the first of a Responce course. Getting a marked vehicle through traffic to respond to incidents. Still hooned around the open roads, but included runs with lights and sierens within speed limits. A bit more relevant. One of the favorite parts of the test was through a high street - could fail for going too fast- progress with safety. As was the first course didn't have the new 1.4's so had to use the 2.0's which were being phased out, so was a bit more fun in the open road. Guzzirider sums it up fairly well. I'm now control room staff, and as such control and direct pursuits. A pursuit being when you fail to stop when indicated by a following vehicle. You might start of being followed by a 1.4 being driven by a Response or a General purpose driver. A quick on going risk assesment is carried out , covering, offences disclosed or suspected;weather conditions;road conditions;vehicle being followed; known driver;suitablity of pursing vehicle and driver training; risk to public etc The aim then is to get suitable vehicles involved; traffic cars; a dog and the heliocopter and the others drop out. We consider tactical options - spikes , rolling and static blocks, containment etc. Once either a traffic car or heliocopter are on your tail its only a matter of time. There is a huge differance to; "General attention to large capacity motorcycle seen going at excess speed towards (ther other way)" and "Vehicle failing to stop" The one thing to remember is that we're all fairly law abiding individuals riding our own motorcycles. Its a huge escalation going from excess speed to fail to stop and dangerous driving. It might be worth it if your're a fleeing felon, wanted for serious crime or with a trunk full of stolen goods or drugs and in a stolen motor One of the rags had feature where two officers took their patrol cars/bikes on to race track with a selection of bikers. Only the journo was significantly quicker, most were slower. And then the Sgt said our strength is on the road where there other factors come into play.
  15. Me I've got a Vauxhall Astra 1.4(multipoint)i We train the driver not tune the car The bigger boys ( ) get T5 Volvos, Mercs and other such stuff to play with
  16. Round Britain Rally Any one here had any experience of any of the previous rallies? Sent my form off today. So it's a bit academic anyway. There's no way I'm going to do all of the check points, but might hit a couple on the way to and from the UK V11 and Buell Highland fling. And also a few day trips out. Would give a bit of a purpose to a day out on the bike. For those who didn't click on the link above. The brief synopsis is a Treasure Hunt/Orienteering competition on your motorcycle. Scoring points of differing value for each check point visited between Easter and November. The check points are given by grid ref and a simple clue. Take a photo of bike, check card and feature. I don't think there are Team prizes, but I filled in the club field with MGOCGB and V11Lemans.com. So if you do decide to join in put whatever appropriate in your case. You can register more than one bike. Could cause issues if in two owners club teams do the points get split to bike was ridden? Or full points to each team? There is 22 days left to it starts so enough time to join in. and at £25 (two tank fills - putting in to real terms - well that’s only a handful of US$ - nearly nothing these days) not too expensive for a dabble.
  17. No Jaap took heed of Al's suggestion and there is a seperate Quiz section at the foot of the main forum page
  18. My maintance tip ride in the rain and fit a scotoiler

  20. aslong as laughing with me rather than at me - it's not sporting to laugh at the afflicted on occasion, thou life in its self is funny. sometimes perculiar sometimes ha-ha
  21. I think we've lost touch with a few important facts. 128.6mph as a speed is- 1- Fast enough (over here) to get you a ban, probably 3 months on first conviction. Might make it a year if previous speed offences, though probably not enough to get you thrown in clink. 2- Pretty piss poor for an 1100cc sports bike. I bought my lemans because it's a slow old bus. It wins in character and uniqueness. Has real world performance. I couldn't trust myself not to do 170mph on a Blackbird or similar. My old (86) FJ would sit at 125 effortlessly with loads in reserve. Having said that it was easier to keep to 85, a more sensible speed, than the guzzi who seems to prefer 95-110. This tale of daring seems to take place on a dual carriageway, just a case of winding it on, unless there a chassis issues. Is a 748 hot rod what we would know as 600 Monster? About the only Ducati that’s theoretically slower than a V11. It would seem to be a case of the Ducati rider knowing when’s enough is enough. Closing upon traffic, I wouldn't want to mix it at speed with a rider I didn't know. It's one thing charging about with your mate who you've ridden with for years and know how he rides and can anticipate his moves. Altogether different with a complete stranger. Back to speed enforcement, over here it has to be corroborated, usually by the operators opinion, and a physical measuring device, be it following check, vascar, radar or laser. Speed cameras take two pictures to show how far you've moved. I don't know how the digital ones that measure your speed over two fixed points several miles apart deal with that, not even sure they're up and running. This sort of speed wouldn't get forgoten about and let slip, You might put doubt on the accuracy and argue the toss over a few mph but the facts being you are well over and would be sentanced as such. Argueing about identification wouldn't normally help as has been tightened up to put the onus on the owner, to name driver, and failing to do so is a seperate offence. The worse case is being summonsed giving evidence relack of knowledge and either being thrown in the cells for cotempt of court or found guilty of perjury or pervert course of justice later. I can remember one case when I was first let out on my own, Funny thing everything went to court from that day. Car had parked in the limits of a pedestrian crossing, carries endorsement on licence. No driver with vehicle, continue on foot patrol. !/2 hour later I see this car a bit further down the road and stop the car. Report driver and issue instructions to produce documents. This road changes it name 4 times in the 200 yards between the two roundabouts at either end. So on the producer I put location of offence- put the wrong bit. He failed to produce his documents, keeping the producer as evidence that he couldn't have commited the offence as no crossing in that bit of road. Summons all drawn up correctly, error corrected. Goes to court after a lot of deliberation the Magistrates aquit on the crossing but hit him with the maximum fine for the failing to produce. Saved him the 3 points but cost him several hundred pounds more.
  22. Not Telling (sulking)
