thanks fellows all linkages look intact nothing out of ordinary that I could see like i said shifter goes up and down like its not attached to anything until it hits the starter cover bolt and the pork chop on the way down there is a light sound/feel of a loose spring bounce that might be around the shifter shaft planning to open it up this weekend to take a look inside really confused on what parts I need to get with MG re design and all hopefully opening it will clear some of this out any tips and suggestions will be greatly appriciated

Hi just got a 2002 lemans on the the first ride the instrument dash came off which i replaced the mounts and all is good so today the weather was good in north jersey where i live attempted the second ride made it 2 miles from the house and the shifter got stock in the third gear, limped it back home as I said the bike is in the third the shifter can be moved up until it hits the starter cover nut and down until it hits the pork chop but no shifting action is that a symptom of a broken PAWL spring?

Hi Michael my name is Del and after years of pondering I finally bought a 2002 Lemans last week. I live in north Jersey (close to GWB) any time your looking for someone to ride with give me a shout, starting the sort out process of the bike weather permitting and should be in full swing by spring, meanwhile decent weather on weekends I will be up for some day rids. let me know Del
