Calling all BC Stradavariants!!!

I talked to assorted Guzzi riders at the bike show (where were you Eugene? There are some nice cozy bed and breakfasts near Abbotsford you could have taken the wife to and she would have let you sneak away for at least a couple of hours!!) and many of them indicated that they would like to get together for a spring bike ride. I thought of the variations in BC roads and I know that road is strada in Italian so I figured we could assemble a goup of us for a spring Strada Various ride!

My idea is meeting early on a saturday morning and putting a good days ride followed by a BBQ afterwards. My friend Cory has offered to provide his large back yard for the BBQ and I will check out some accomodation rates and arrange bike parking and transport for anyone who wishes to have a few drinks and stay overnight in Chilliwack.

I have 3 nice one day rides planned and I am open to suggestions for more. I also have ideas for some 2 day rides as well but I think a one day trip is suitable for a first time group ride.

The first option is meeting at Harrison Hot Springs for coffee and then the ride would be to Hope, Lytton, Merritt, Princeton and returning to Chilliwack. This trip is 531 km.

The second ride would depend on the date of the ride as conditions are not always good in the springtime. It would be same start point then off to Lytton, Lilloett, Pemberton then turn around and retrace the route. I do not enjoy the Vancouver, Squamish, Whistler part of this ride. This trip is 633 km.

The third ride would be Harrison to Lytton, Lilloett, Cache Creek, Logan Lake, Merritt and Chilliwack. This trip is 590 km.

This ride isn't just for BC riders either. I know there are many Stradavarians in Washington as well and all are welcome!!

If anyone has any input into the trips and has suggestions for a date please feel free to comment. If feedback is positive I may have a poll then and start planning the details!

If anyone feels this is the basis for forming an official club then we could arrange a meeting before the BBQ!

For the record, my thoughts on forming an official club are rather negative as I don't really feel we need one. All the trappings that come with it such as presidents, treasurers, treasuries, liability insurance and so on are not my cup of tea. I will not stand in the way of anyone wanting to form a club either. I will support a club but only as a rider and a supplier of ideas.

On that note I do hope we can gather a crowd for a good late spring ride.

Cheers.

Hey Jim ! Great idea!!!

l would love the chance to finally meet some fellow STRATA :helmet: VARIENTS !! and go for a ride :race:

Up here on the North lsland l've been organizing monthly "breakfast runs" over the past 5-6yrs, NO club, NO rules, save for one....THERE ARE NO STINK'N RULES !!!

l usually hold them on the 2nd sunday of every month during the ridding season and the whole plan is to get all and any type of bike/rider out for a ride. We meet at a pre-determined gas station , usually at about 10:30 and then ride off to have brunch at some restaurant/pub etc for about noon. The rides vary from a short 100km round trip to the longest of about 400kms. Destinations are to places like Sayward, Sprout Lake past Port Alberni  and of course Gold River :thumbsup:

We get everything from a great guy on a '51 BSA 500 with a side car called "Mabel" to the normal cruiser crowd, some Harleys, Wings, and usually a good selection of new and vintage Brit bikes, the odd Vincent, always a couple of Beemers, sometimes sport bikes and of course the cream of the crop, a few Ducs and my Goose!112_1281.JPG

The ride is simple, ride at your own pace!

fast guys sweep the road ahead for the cops.....only had one ticket issued to a squid and we all pitched in later on...and tell the pub that there are more bikes on the way

regular riders, at their own pace

slow riders ....we'll save you a place

it's not an organized ride, just a bunch of like minded riders out for a sunday spin, riding in a long pack formation is not encouraged.

....to which, l'm going to try to get a ride/get together organized with Brian of the Ducati Club for this summer, probably mid-July to Mount Washington.. maybe see you there?????

sorry l missed the guys at the show,

(l guess that you meet and were talking to "Ducati Club Brian") again, one day with luck l'll get to meet you, and to check out your fantastic assortment of bikes.....

:bier:

Cheers

I like that rule.

Yeah I did meet Brian. Good fellow. I'll try and take you up on that one and I hope you can make it over for our ride. I've got a line on accomodation already that should be reasonable. Spouses are welcome too even if they just want to spend the day socialising while the other half goes riding!

I am interested, and am from Seattle. Let me know when you pick a date for the Spring ride. I sent Helicopter Jim a private message - did not hear back yet so I am posting here!

Thanks, looks like a great route

Thanks Bob. I just got back from flying so missed a bit.

I think it would be great to get some Washington riders up here and i hope we can come down and do a ride with you guys as well. I am going to get together with a couple of Guzziti this weekend so perhaps I'll have some tentative dates to throw around next week!! The BBQ afterwards is still pretty definite as well so I'll try and get some accomodation rates for anyone who wants to overbight here as well!!

More to come!!

Cheers!

Riding time for me is always an issue, or rather lack of it, my :sun: Tenni  is in the good and caring hands of Gord :luigi: at Valley Guzzi for so a service and since l have to go all the way to Chilliwack to pick up the bike, l might be able to go for a little ride as well :race: .............

I have to install a paddle wheel on my Guzzi if we are going for a ride around here! With all the rain I can't even motivate my new puppy to go outside for very long. I haven't even done any of the servicing I had planned for the Guzzi. My cuda has been taking up most of my free time, oh and the new dog he is chewing everything in the house! He is a 12 week old Lab and German Sheperd cross. If we get some dry days I can dig the bike out of the garage and get her ready for the season, I'll check back on the forum to see what the plans are for a ride.
