Pierre Posted March 9, 2007 Author Posted March 9, 2007 Have you guys noticed the disparity in top speed? Ducati - 324 kph. Yamaha, 309? Wow! Can Stoner turn that into a full race advantage? Hope so. Watching he and Pedrosa go at it if that develops (old rivals, no?) will be worth the price of admission. Gonna' be one hell of a race tomorrow, I think. Remember, this is a spoiler thread so if you don't want to know the results until you've watched it delayed, don't look here post race until you've seen it yourself. Go Hopper! Guess my bias shows. Incredible riders, each and every one of them!
Morris Sod Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 First 8 on grid from final qualifying on 1m55's. Has it always been this close. If the 800'scc make for this close at the start of the season gonna be a very interesting year. From an Aussie point of view I hope Stoner creams Pedrosa. I'm really pleased Edwards is producing such a good showing, he's an old fighter from way back. Bring it on
helicopterjim R.I.P. Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Have you guys noticed the disparity in top speed? Ducati - 324 kph. Yamaha, 309? I don't know if they are related but there are concerns that the Ducati may not have enough fuel to go the full race.
g.forrest Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 I don't know if they are related but there are concerns that the Ducati may not have enough fuel to go the full race. you've got a good point there jim..but i have faith in the ducati team to have covered it,, so i'm still confident for a casey podium.
helicopterjim R.I.P. Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 What a great race. Those two rode so well and so fast. I wasn't sure he could put the move on at the end because the other fellow was so consistent and kept bumping up the lap times. In the end he couldn't - said his tires were sliding from the pace. The best and fastest guy won and won well!! What a great race!! PS No issues with fuel.
g.forrest Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 my faith in casey was justified...... to the doubters.
helicopterjim R.I.P. Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Here is a quote from Rossi; I wanted to push Casey and try to take the fight to him more, but in fact he was perfect today. He didn't make a single mistake as far as I could see and he rode very well; he deserved to win so congratulations to him.

Pierre Posted March 10, 2007 Author Posted March 10, 2007 Duc is very fast - but Stoner had the race craft to use it well. Jerez won't yield him the same straight line advantage. Rossi constantly attacking despite power deficit - what a warrior. Pick him in a locked box car. Pedrosa and Hopper went at it pretty good - I'd say tier 1 was Stoner / Rossi, Tier 1.5 Pedrosa / Hopper - and then all the rest. If this is any indication, it'll be a great season! Pierre, what's up with Capirex??? Pitt (7 laps), Checa (14), De Puniet (15), and Capirossi (16) all dnf'd. All mechanicals I'm pretty sure.
helicopterjim R.I.P. Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Pitt (7 laps), Checa (14), De Puniet (15), and Capirossi (16) all dnf'd. All mechanicals I'm pretty sure. Pitt was mechanical, the other three lowsided. Top speed of the Ducati was significantly more than the other bikes and power on the straightaway was definitely a factor. Rossi knew he needed to have a 10 to 15 bikelenght advantage over Stoner to beat him to the finish line. He passed a few times but couldn't make it stick and then Stoner turns in his fastest lap on the last lap leaving Rossi withno choice but to watch. Here are the top 6 max speeds on the main straigtaway (of which the finish line is well down the straight). 27 Casey STONER AUS........Ducati Marlboro Team DUCATI........324.7 Qualifying Practice 65 Loris CAPIROSSI ITA......Ducati Marlboro Team DUCATI.........323.5 Qualifying Practice 66 Alex HOFMANN GER.........Pramac d'Antin DUCATI.................322.6 Qualifying Practice 4 Alex BARROS BRA.............Pramac d'Antin DUCATI.................319.5 Qualifying Practice 26 Dani PEDROSA SPA.........Repsol Honda Team HONDA...........317.9 Free Practice Nr. 3 21 John HOPKINS USA..........Rizla Suzuki MotoGP SUZUKI..........313.1 Qualifying Practice
