It only took a month....but I managed to stack my lovely LeMans today :(

 

Bit of damage to myself, plenty to the bike. Essentially I had other things on my mind when I shouldn't have and as a result had to slam the anchors on, locking and losing the front. It hurt plenty, although nothing broken. Bike looks rough, but was ridden home by a colleague. The fairing and OEM head guards took the brunt and most of the damage can be put right fairly easily. Bent footpeg - easy swap. R/H head guard and plug cap - again an easy swap. R/H side of fairing is scuffed but useable with a few repairs, but the left hand side is mullered. Frame undereath is bent out of shape - no idea if it'll be repairable. The headlight shell is broken and one of the indicators disintegrated. R/H rocker cover and silencer picked up quite a few scuffs but nothing deep or nasty so will hopefully polish out. Might swap out/polish the easy stuff and stick the headlight into a new shell and mount it to the forks as per V11 Sport until I can find a new fairing - any idea if these can be bought anywhere, and dare I ask how much it would set me back? Still quite surprised at how well the old tractor stodd up to it :)

 

Bloody sore and hoping that I've had my three bits of bad luck - wrote off my Tiger at the end of January, got rear ended at a roundabout on the Bullet last week and now this. Hoping my luck improves soon!

Very sorry to hear this, my friend, but glad to know you don't seem to've sustained too much damage to y'erself.

 

I'm just now emerging from the last of me own efforts on a similar but less extensive "excursion", whereby I'd similarly "over-braked" immediately behind a fully-locked-up (and sliding sideways) SUV in traffic. Again -- whether or not this was a cell phone-inspired event will remain known only to the Nice Lady herself. <_< At least she stopped to see if I might need medical assistance. :whistle:

 

Fortunately, there are many resources here to help you get back on the road.

 

I straightened my alu folding footpeg from a severe 90-degree bend to perfectly straight again with a propane torch. It didn't need much time to heat up. Be sure to take the hinge pin out first and be careful wot you use to grip and bend it with. The surface will soften enough to quickly take on marks from wotever you use, and it takes very little force.

With regard to the fairing -- they are a rather rare commodity - especially if in pristine shape (used). Last I heard they went for $1,500-$2,000 or so new -- if you can find them... and in the USA they are pretty much unobtanium.

 

I have been looking for one for QUITE SOME TIME... trying to convert my Coppa Italia into a Coppa LeMans.

 

I've seen one posted here...

 

One other member of this forum, Greg Field, is planning to do the same thing to his Ballabio/Coppa - and rumor has it he has finally found a used fairing to do it.

 

The finished product -- I hope -- will look like this:

Foxy, sorry to hear about the spill.

i rebuilt a V11 last year, got just about everything i needed from Reboot, Motomecca or Corsa Italiana.

Though Ebay was the best for engine parts, even with shipping, worked out cheaper...

you also gotta think outside the box sometimes. For instance. a chrome BMW headlight case is the same as Guzzi, but about a third of the price (better chrome too!)

Buell indicators are the same...and easier to get.

Ducati Monster bikini fairing will fit a V11 with minimum of alterations... etc, etc.

Cheers chaps. Had another quick look at the bike today alot of the damage looks to be easily or cheaply repaired. The scratching on the silencer (matt black) is surprisingly light, so will hopefully polish out. Any idea of a suitable colour match for the respray though? Indicators I have discovered are the same as used on the Triumph Tiger, so very easily obtained for me. As soon as I'm able to wield a tool or ride I'll be putting her into some form of naked guise, and then sort the fairing out. Which could be fun, but I have had an offer of a used one already, so fingers crossed!

 

Still immensely annoyed at myself, but on the upside the bike isn't too bad and neither am I - although I'm gonna be in a bit of pain for the foreseeable.
