Guzzirider Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Onboard Lap Takes a couple of minutes to load, but it is well worth watching Michael Rutter ride at speeds of over 200mph on a public road. Those kerbs, lamp posts and telegraph poles look frighteningly dangerous- a million miles away from the "safe" sanitised world of Moto GP. Hats off to the guys and gals who risk their lives to entertain us.
belfastguzzi Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Great footage of Cookstown 100 on tv last night. Got home just in time to see it so didn't get posting any notice to let you know in case you would have had a chance to see it. There'll be more of course, though Tandragee isn't being shown due to the accident that killed John Donnan.
helicopterjim R.I.P. Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 I had the priviledge of viewing the NW200 from the passenger seat of the car of my friend Gary Tate who raced there in the late 80's. Except for the odd mention of bumping some curbs the commentary was much the same as Michael Rutter spoke so here it is: We asked Michael Rutter how he approached each corner and straight on the course. These are his own words :- "York - approach at 140mph drop down to ten miles per hour…1st gear....... Mill Road - approach at 135mph ....4th gear drop to 50mph in2nd gear .... Station - approach at 170mph in 5th, corner at 165mph in 5th gear..... Cromore road - 200mph+ in 6th gear.... University corner approach at 190mph in 6th drop to 2nd at 45mph.... Roundabout - approach 120mph in 4th then down to 2nd at 60mph.... Mathers - approach at 170mph in 5th corner in 4th at 100mph... Corona chicance - approach at 190mph in 6th then out at 70mph in 2nd... Metropole - approach at 185mph in 6th then out at 55mph in 2nd under the railway brigde Black hill - approach in 4th gear at 130mph then down to 90 mph in 3rd... Coast road 180mph in 5th.... Juniper - approach 170mph in 5th, down to 2nd and 23mph, corner into finish at 70mph in 3rd....." Easy............
callison Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Insane, isn't it. I've been in planes that were slower than these bikes.
tikkanen Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Those guys - and Michael Rutter especially - have grande cojones. There's no room for hickups on a 'track' like this and if you FU you REALLY FU big time. Heck, there's no litterbox or anything, only ditches and brickhouses! Impressive, that's the only way to describe it. Søren
