Guest jeremy Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 Hey I wonder if we can get cliff to build a solid state box to rid our selves of the damn things totaly, how bout it cliff
al_roethlisberger Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 ...or maybe some made from water and several feet of clear tubing! (apologies to the water manometer fans, but I coudn't resist)
callison Posted July 30, 2003 Posted July 30, 2003 Are talking about ECU's here AL? Or relays? My experience with solid state relays is that they fail in the shorted mode, as in actuated. Not ideal. They aren't cheap either. Cliff could easily make an ECU if he could get the connector. I have that part number at last, but I haven't checked on a supplier. One of too many projects.
Cliff Posted July 30, 2003 Posted July 30, 2003 Do the replacement relays have problems also or just the originals? Easiest thing is to carry a spare relay or two. I'm still on my original relays on the Sport but I've just ordered some spares. Actually if you were stranded at the side of the road, you could short both relays ( find out which pins ) to get you home. They're both just switches to 12V. You'd have your fuel pump running when the ignition is off, so you'd have to undo it when you get home.
