Guzzirider Posted July 20, 2008 Author Posted July 20, 2008 Looking good mate! My progress is slow- still waiting for John at the Tank shop to start my tank etc. I'll get some of the other jobs finished once the summer is over. Cheers Guy
Tom M Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 I'm getting closer.... Very nice! I hope you can ride that down to the IMOC rally in Sept. I missed the last one, really hope to make it this time around.
WitchCityBallabio Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 I'm hoping just a couple more weeks. The guy that's going to build the wiring harness has told me it only takes him a couple of days. I have no idea how long the painter will take, but hopefully not more than a week. I really want to bring it to IMOC, so barring any major mechanical issues, it should be there with the Ballabio.

Are you going to paint that gorgeous alloy tank??!!
WitchCityBallabio Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 I am actually. I thought long and hard about it, but there are a lot of Guzzi's running around with polished aluminum tanks. The color is going to be a "Kandy Black Cherry" from the House of Kolor with the gold wings from the LMIII tank decal. This will give you an idea of the color....
Tom M Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 That bike will look fantastic with or without paint on the tank, and there certainly are lots of polished tanks out there. Have you considered partial paint on the tank? A little exposed alloy shows that the tank isn't a fiberglass knock-off. A couple examples of tanks with exposed alloy in the knee indents: Something like an early LeMans black top tank, but with your black cherry color on top, and with polished sides instead of red might be cool too. Like I said, it will look fantastic no matter what you choose to do. Nice job!
WitchCityBallabio Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I kinda like that. I may have to consider that. It still has some color, but has some polished bits.... Interesting. This is the most recent shot with the pipes on now....
Tom M Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Lookin' good! Those pictures I used came from George Dockray's collection HERE. Here's another example like the ones above, but a little different, from Paul's fast guzzi page: The Dutch Guzzisti have some cool cafe bikes here: http://www.mgcn.nl/dameijer/index.php?opti...key=1&hit=1
waspp Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Looks great Doug! What exhaust did you go with? Are those the laFranconia muffs? I still haven't got a decent system on my cafe bike, trying to keep it somewhat old skool.
WitchCityBallabio Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Hal, Yes, they are the Lafranc Comps. I was also trying to keep it old school for the most part and get something fairly upswept. Also, I wanted to be able to hear this things music!
nhmainiac Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Is that the large sized alloy tank? Who is the guy in the photo with all ink?
WitchCityBallabio Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Yes Todd... It's the large tank from HT Moto and that's our friend Dan the Man! How's the new 1000S?
WitchCityBallabio Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Here it is in the light of day outside of the shop that will be doing the wiring and painting.
WitchCityBallabio Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Well after a year, here it is. Overall, it was a pretty fun project and the '79 seemed to me to be a very nice machine to work on. After this has sunk in a bit, it might be time to start looking for a nice clapped out Eldo to resurrect.
