A friend of mine is looking for a new helmet, and frankly it's about time for me to get a new one also. He currently has an HJC, but says that it squeezes his (narrow) head front and back. I have a Nolan that fits my melon-shaped head just fine.

So- what kind of helmets fit what kind of head shape? What fits a melon-shape and what kind of description is used for a narrower head? A fish?

Steve (the friend) is also looking at Arai, and I think they'll work for him, but within Arai, there are different shapes? Arggg. I know the Arai is wickedly painful for me.

Can a helmet be tailored to an individual? If so, then who does that?

So, here's a graphic (not gross, just unbelievable) illustration of a helmet functioning:

It has to do with the model of the helmet.

Different models have different shapes. Shapes also differ if the helmet is made for other market than the one you are in.

So let's say a Quantum ARAI that's made for Europe heads will be different in inside shape as the ones made for the asian market (even same size)

Models also Differ. i.e. My AGV GPpro Rossi Helmets fit to me exact, though another AFV I got (stealth) isn't that fit even at same or smaller size.

AFAIK ARAI has a wide variety of helemets considering type of shapes corresponding to their numbers, depending pumpkin or watermelon heads, best is to go and try all the good ones.

And even most iportant is what's inside the melon, if it is ripe go get a Good one, to justify it's value.

I used to have an HJC CL12 that fit me very well. I now have a Shoei RF1000 that fits me just as well, so I believe those 2 makes/models are designed to fit the same head shape. If your buddy doesn't like the fit of his HJC he probably won't like the RF1000 either.

I found the HJC to fit my narrow head better than anything. Other brands kill my forehead or are too loose. I don't know what else is even narrower than an HJC. Joe
