I know this isn't exactly guzzi related but I can't find anything aprilia related in the states, even the aprilia ppl are at a general loss, specifically I'm looking for a keychain, I have a couple sweet Guzzi keychains no problem and I found a couple aprilia keyrings in europe BUT I don't speak german and the shipping is like 19 euro the keychain is 4 euro. <_ i rather pay someone on here half that and make them money than to take it up the shoot hard. also know many of you much better anyone ape forum ask for such a thing. src="%7B___base_url___%7D/uploads/emoticons/default_ohmy.png" alt=":o">

anyway, looking around I can't seem to find anything aprilia in the states. AT least does anyone know of any good keyrings/key chains to use aprilia or not, I like the Guzzi rubber oval eagle as its light, sets my key apart and doesn't scratch anything up. Anyone got any suggestions I could use that would last and do what I need it to?

I wouldn't ask as it is reletively trivial at best but it feels like I've looked everywhere for something good and I got nothin :huh2:

I know many of you have much more experience than I about things like this so screw it I'm asking :oldgit:

I was chatting with one of the girls at work who rides. She will be going to the Tailend Rally the same weekend that I'm going to Holland so I've tasked her with finding an Aprilia/RSV key fob and will send it on to you, if not you'll have to wait to the nec show Oct/Nov.

AWESOME, I'll pay you anything you desire, within reason, and to cover any and all expenses incured in such search for said keyfob. :notworthy:

Aprilia AND moto guzzi schwag is VERY limited in the states, anything guzzi I've gotten I've had to get from italy ore the UK, or well here. Guzzi is a little more prolific in their gear THAT or it doesn't sell as well and sits around longer so its easier to find :huh2:

ah well I love'em :mg:

but ON the other hand, Stupid Vespa crap is EVERYWHERE, key chains, shirts, helmets, wallets, wristwatches, mugs. makes me sick :vomit:

It's the whole "bike boutique" thing. H-D, Ducati, BMW, and now Vespa. Guzzi is a prime candidate if the masses ever start to notice them.

The thing to remember is that Vespa has a whole cultural history behind it, much like [altho' in complete opposition to] Harley-Davidson. Piaggio made the decision from the outset, when re-entering the U.S. market, that Vespas would only be available from glitzy boutiques, even going so far as legally wresting the Vespa, USA rights from the guy who'd been sole support for the brand during the interregnum ['92-'02?]

I may have some of the facts messed up, but the crux of the matter is that Piaggio made the conscious decision to capitalize upon their nostalgia and brand-recognition, exactly as H-D has done, only of course, in a more polished and smooth fashion, not because they're Italian, but because that was all part of the plan, as opposed to basically backing into it out of accident & desperation, the way Harley-Davidson did.

The reason you won't see Moto Guzzi go that route is because they have fundamentally no brand recognition stateside! That's more the fault of de Tomaso back in the 70s than anyone or -thing else, cutting off shipments of El Dorados, etc. just as Guzzi was starting to develop a rep for building good road-munchers. But that's all ancient history now; it should be sufficient that the relative obscurity of the marque will thankfully prevent the 'boutiquefrippery' of our beloved steeds. OTOH, it means that the silly little trinkets that keep boutiques afloat w/ their obscence markups are sorta thin on the ground...

Guzzi made a half arsed attempt to do the HD clothes things a few years back- remember all those "sign of the tribe" T shirts and the launch of the Guzzi World Club, their version of HOG.

The Guzzi world club never really took off because it was so hard to join- you had to arrange a bank transfer to an account in Mandello, and some of the big existing Guzzi clubs did not want to affiliate. I assume it still exists- is anybody in it on this forum?

The gear was not very good, and even if you wanted something, chances are your local dealer did not stock it.

The thing is nobody buys a Guzzi for an image- unless you just want the "boring old fart" look! I just hope that they never necome over popular and hyped like the BMW GS- they are so bloody common and all the riders spend shedloads on gear and accessories trying to mimic Ewan and Charlie.

I bought one of these from Mototek in Austin, Texas but that was 5 years ago so there's no guarantee they still have any.

The irony here being, of course, the Ewan is a long-time Guzzista, and if the factory was still making the Quota & willing to give'em a little backing, Long Way Round would likely have been a Moto Guzzi infomercial instead of boosting BMW's bottom line...
