mark.gilmore Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 The problem was that the sealed bearing in the center of the ring gear (visible from the left with the wheel off) was off of it's seat by about .030". Since the spacer inside the box butts up against the race of this bearing, the spacer was .030" to the left of where it should be. This is why the inner spacer did not protrude through the big washer. Well I wasn't expecting that,Good work.Nothing like solving it yourself
jtucker Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Yeah, good thread. I like learning about the multitude of new and different ways I can screw up my bike. BTW, the "other final drive" at the shop that you mentioned in the first post was most likely mine... __Jason
Bruce Reader Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 After thinking I had fixed the wheel bearing issue with measuring and fitting a new spacer I have chewed 2 wheel bearings on the caliper side after 30000 km of being fine. This time I'm going to on investigate the whole system and also align the rear caliper properly. Any ideas on the significance of the manual requirement to torque the axle on the housing side ? Cheers Bruce
