FuelCooler Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 If you are an recovering addict who has have given up wheelies and stoppies, DO NOT READ THIS. Well, yesterday a couple riding buddies and I went to a KTM demo day at Hanover Cycle in Whippany, NJ. We road the 990 Super Duke and the 950 Super Moto R. After first riding the 990 Duke, I was worried that I would have to have it. But all of us preferred the Super Moto R! They were both fine handling, fun wheelie bikes with great brakes, but the taller SM wanted to tote the front in second easier. My hats off to KTM, their bikes are great and the demo was low stress and fun. Has anyone ridden one of these who has also rode a new Speed Triple? I wonder how they compare. If that 950 SM lifted the front in 3rd gear like it did in second I

waspp Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 I purchased a BMW F650 X challenge for my offroadand adventure fun. Bmw makes several variations of the F650 a cross country, X moto and the X challenge which is a serious off road bike. The bike is loads of fun, rotax powered built by Aprilia, a real blast. The 450 series is expected out next yaer as well. The X challenge features a Continental air ride rear shock which gives you great adjustability. I hope to get a set of super motard rims later to be able to switch it up a bit.
BRENTTODD Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 The KTM was great but some of us dont have the huge bankroll to make it a third bike. I would like to have it for a second Maybe when i grow up i can be more like my buddy Steve
FuelCooler Posted October 15, 2007 Author Posted October 15, 2007 If you want something different (very different) you might look at the Highland. I have to get right forward on the tank when on a mission in the first 3 gears, when geared for the road just to keep it down. Off road geared the b*^(&% is up in forth and you don't have to rev the nuts off it. 365lbs and lots of grunt. There are problems for cruisers and posers in that the mill runs rough below 3000rpm but it's far faster than the Guzzi under the 110. Really it's too fast for me. John That Highlander looks sweet, but there is little if any dealer support here in the USA. If ever (or when) I am rich it would make a fine addition. Thanks for the link, it was a good read. Third gear!?! I love easy wheelies! A friend of mine once bought a new 1996 GSXR 750 SRAD and asked me how to get it to wheelie in first gear. I told him, "Just let it." Cheers, Steve

Cheers, Steve The Highland died the death in the US because they couldn't get it to run to Californian (?) standards. The current inlet problem set up is difficult to modify because of the specialist fuel tank. This does not stop it being an amazing bike and really worth having. Currently developments are being tested in Sweden and are promising with even more power that will solve the problem. Unfortunately they are a small outfit without the resourses to make the best of their product. I expect the bike to be coming out of China soon, made under licence. It should then be cheap too. http://www.tradeatchina.com/company/catalo...Motorcycle.html http://img2.tradeatchina.com/photo/51339468/Motorcycle.jpg http://www.tradeatchina.com/company/catalo...0cc_Engine.html http://www.tradeatchina.com/company/sokuso/index.html

Guzzirider Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I can understand the lust for one of these things- BMWs are for squares who iron creases in the front of their jeans!
waspp Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Yea while us "squares" are out doing stuff like this on our BMW's guys like you are home waxing your prissy ducatis!
Guest ratchethack Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Yea while us "squares" are out doing stuff like this on our BMW's guys like you are home waxing your prissy ducatis! Horf, horf. . . Now y'er talkin', Waspp! Freakin' amazin', ain't it?? Instead o' the above (see photo), lots o' those (with or without Ducatis) will be endlessly obsessing like old women, bolting on the latest high-zoot blingery for their next parking-lot posing session, or chasing peaks on dyno charts that they don't stand a shadow of a trace of a chance of ever making any use of. . . How to comprehend it, let alone explain?? Truth is most certainly stranger than fiction. . . -- Cdr. Hatchracket, Curmudgeon
FuelCooler Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 Yea while us "squares" are out doing stuff like this on our BMW's guys like you are home waxing your prissy ducatis! If you please, sexist comments to follow, all in jest!!!! You know, I had a BMW 1150R. I would have kept it had I been born with girl parts. (I actually lusted after the K1200R, R1200S and I like the new on/off bikes... $$$$$$$$$) Ducati's remind you that you have man parts. Guzzi's will make you grow man parts. The KTM (and Highlander) will turtle them.
