BRENTTODD Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 My neutral switch on the trans is starting to leak a little oil. Is this pretty common, and do i just order a new one or is there more to this I dont know about ?
Tom M Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 If tightening it doesn't stop the leak you'll need to seal or replace the gasket or o-ring (I don't remember which it has). I had to replace my whole switch when it stopped working and I think it was about $45. Silicone gasket sealer is lot cheaper than a new switch
Greg Field Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 I think it's a 10mm crush washer under the switch, but that's just from memorey. Try tightening it a 10th of a turn.
BRENTTODD Posted October 15, 2007 Author Posted October 15, 2007 I'll try tighten it let ya know how i make out with it thanks
BrianG Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 I know it's not a bit that sees much removal/replacement, but those crush washers harden over time, with heat cycles and with re-use. If the seal is where it's leaking you can anneal the crush washer to re-use it, or just replace it. I prefer copper crush washers to aluminum ones, but that's just me.
BRENTTODD Posted October 16, 2007 Author Posted October 16, 2007 I just snuged it down at work it did have about a tenth of a turn in it. I have 30 mile ride home Ill see what happens, but i think Greg could have solved my problem. Thanks to everyone for ther input
