Richard Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 I heard a disturbing rumour the other day that Guzzi are not making parts for any pre-Piaggo bikes. Has anyone else heard anything similar? I've also been hearing that the next incarnation of Guzzi will be essentially a re-badged Aprilia....
Paul Minnaert Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 man, you hear bad things. Must be the weather. Did they ever make parts?
Skeeve Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 I heard a disturbing rumour the other day that Guzzi are not making parts for any pre-Piaggo bikes. Has anyone else heard anything similar? I've also been hearing that the next incarnation of Guzzi will be essentially a re-badged Aprilia.... "Not making" & "not having" are two different things. Guzzi sold off a bunch of their stockpile of completed v11 engines when they went to the new 1100 for the Breva, but they probably still have a large stockpile of parts for the bikes just prior to the Piaggio takeover, since by law most places they have to provide support for at least 7-10 years after sale, & Piaggio has only been in control for 3. But you can bet that Piaggio will go the route of most manufacturers & eliminate support for old models just as soon as they legally can, just to prevent having a lot of capital tied up in inventory. Before Soichiro passed away, Honda had complete parts inventory for their bikes going back 20 years or more. Nowadays, Yamaha beats them cold for old parts supply, & even Yamaha isn't comprehensive past the 10 year mark. No more rumour mongering, please. Let's play "wait & see," and stock up on the parts you think you'll need as the 10 yr window starts closing on your particular bike as a precaution...
Paul Minnaert Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Kevin, spare parts cost money, they rather sell no spares. But they know we don't buy bikes then.

Hi Richard, If you can reveal your source, where did this "rumour" come from? what you would consider a"Credible source"?..or hopefully more like "bullshittin' around the fire with a couple roadpops in ya"? Thanks, S.H.
DeBenGuzzi Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 man, you hear bad things. Must be the weather. Did they ever make parts? OMG thats so true, wait, does piaggio even make parts? most of the parts out there are just stripped down left over bikes, At least thats where they get Aprilia parts, believe it.
macguzzi Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 I posted this issue over a year ago nobody paid any attention then either .Guzzi sold off all remaining spares two years ago that included all V11 stuff
DeBenGuzzi Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 I posted this issue over a year ago nobody paid any attention then either .Guzzi sold off all remaining spares two years ago that included all V11 stuff to who? that sucks btw. I hope they support thier new lineup more than thier previous outings. I hear piaggio is turning it around but turning around a leaning into a curve are two different things. <_>

Richard Posted November 4, 2007 Author Posted November 4, 2007 Hi Richard, If you can reveal your source, where did this "rumour" come from? what you would consider a"Credible source"?..or hopefully more like "bullshittin' around the fire with a couple roadpops in ya"? Thanks, S.H. I heard it from the guys at Moto Corsa here in the UK. They specialise in Guzzi spares and workshop.
Guzzirider Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 Was it these guys who bought the stock of V11 spares? HMB I would not get too worried about the spares thing- I have never had an issue getting hold of most items- the thing is you need to have a PC and a phone then shop around. Chances are that between them, either Motomecca, Spares GB, TLM, Agostinis, Stein Dinse or Reboot have what you need in stock, or can get hold of it soon. Saying that, I am accumulating a pile of V11 parts in my garage just in case I need them one day! Guy
Ballabio Bertie Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 I was always led to believe that selling spare parts was much more profitable than selling complete bikes (or cars) as the margin is so high. Building a new bike from spares would cost thousands more than buying a complete one. If thats the case why would anyone want to throw away the parts side of their business?
DeBenGuzzi Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 This forum no no no, I meant who did they sell it all off to?
rocker59 Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 I was always led to believe that selling spare parts was much more profitable than selling complete bikes (or cars) as the margin is so high. Building a new bike from spares would cost thousands more than buying a complete one. If thats the case why would anyone want to throw away the parts side of their business? What you say is true, but most manufacturing is JIT (just in time) these days. The parts come in, go directly to the assembly line, then go out on assembled bikes... The OEMs don't really "need" to house spares, because of the way modern production works... Guzzi uses parts from Acerbis, LaFranconi, Domino, Brembo, etc., and even the castings are outsourced locally... The problem with spare parts is that they cost money. Then your money is just sitting there, sometimes for years, awaiting a customer to buy the product. OEMs would not stock spare parts for obsolete vehicles if not for governments that require them to make parts available for models going back a certain number of years... Complicating things for Guzzi is that they have changed ownership several times in the past ten years. The new owners don't have any incentive to support obsolete products manufactured by the company under previous ownership. They bought the company to build and sell new motorcycles. "Thier motorcycles"... Selling obsolete parts to companies that specialize in that field makes sense... Sadly, our beloved spine-framed Guzzis are "obsolete" and will not be supported by the factory any longer than they are required to by law... That's just the way it is...
