It seems to me that some here are taking this a bit too seriously, i.e., as a personal insult.

 

Jaap has "owned" this site for several years. It is bound to be a major PITA to run. Then--and I have no clue about what constituted the "last straw" in this instance--something set him off and caused him to launch his email.

 

Now, since 2002, I have lost my temper X times and said X-squared things I regret. Suspect I am not alone in that. I also suspect that it must get dispiriting sometimes to run a site such as this and get whining emails filled with complaints from seemingly ungrateful Guzzisti. Finally, something or someone got to him and pegged his BS-Tolerance Meter.

 

That he withstood the temptation to lash this long is the wonder to me, not that he did now.

 

And the means? A sniper is indeed a wonderful point target weapon system, but a grenade or shotgun has some value, too, especially if you want to make a general point.

 

I wasn't insulted, only puzzled. Dutch isn't my first language, and I can only stumble haltingly in Italian and German. If I were to write a warning email in any language other than English, I'd likely start another war, much less merely annoy folks.

 

So, while I might like to know the reason behind it all, I certainly don't expect jaap to tell me in detail. I appreciate knowing that he is not a saint and loses his temper, too, just as we all do.

 

I am also grateful for this and similar boards. Even though I no longer own a spine-frame, I sure miss the Ballabio and banter here. If the price of that is an occasional donation ... and a rare email of the sort jaap sent here, c'est la vie.

Granted, it must be a PITA......

 

but I don't think it was dealt with in a tactful or even effective manner....

 

I have never received an email in that tone before and hope I won't again.

Bill, you've made some very good points -- and very accurate ones, IMHO, having missed the chain of ill-begotten events that launched this little extravaganza. I seem to've found myself square in the middle of things, so if there's anyone to be "blamed", and all this flailing confusion in aftermath needs a focal point for quicker resolution at this point, I reckon I ought to step forward and take ownership of at least the lion's share of responsibility for being a bit of a spark in what turned out to be a field of mighty dry tinder.

 

A thread was yanked, a poll was launched, and an attempt to turn the poll into a referendum on rudeness (that is, the alleged rudeness of Yours Truly) was made. By the end of the conflagration, many of us had said things that weren't quite responsible (or accurate), and I was certainly one of them.

 

I'm sorry now for (I confess) taking some rather ill-conceived enjoyment in the unexpected course of things (I thought some of it was actually pretty funny) -- that is, until what seemed to me to be an undercurrent of truly malevolent motivations finally broke the surface before the plug was finally pulled on the poll.

 

I won't involve myself in anything close to what seems to have sparked this off again.

 

My promise to all, with sincere apologies to Jaap and the Forum for my part in the whole mess.

For heavens sake cut Jaap some slack. He's been pissed off, it's his site we all enjoy and take tremendous advantage of. Every member got an automated email. I get personally addressed mail all the time from lying cheating stealing shysters, that is a problem. This came from a man of proven worth, like my family allowed to get a little off the wall sometimes but basically sound, lets take it on board and move on.

I had 22 years of "group punishment" with the Army. I haven't published to this site in over a year and it seems that SOMEONE (JAAP?) feels it necessary to jerk my chain in a blanket threat that I have done nothing to be responsible for.

 

I fought for Freedom of Speech and alot of other freedoms that people the world wide enjoy and I do not ask for ANY thanks for it. None. It disturbs me that ANYONE can feel it is 'easier' to blanket threaten remotely then confront the individuals responsible. I made my reputation one day and sometimes, one STEP at a time.

 

I do not know what you were thinking but I am glad that you are NOT in control of more then this board. I am sorry that certain 'keyboard Commando's' have gotten to you as this board seems to help ALOT of serious riders. I value my small place within the Moto Guzzi community and JAAP or whoever that controls this board will ultimately have the last word as they have all the 'controls'.

I saw thge message on the 'Motha' board but didn't recieve one as a personal e-mail and I have to admit that I too probably have toched off a couple of flame wars recently but only as I saw it under severe provocation. Perhaps it's time for all of us to take a deep breath and give tha man a break. Perhaps he's been having to field lots of complaints in PM's and emails? Perhaps he's just sick of the bickering? I certainly don't think it's worth anybody getting their panties in a wad over, if I had recieved a personal email it wouldn't of outraged me? I can't see what the problem is? Mind you a lot of things that I don't consider in the least rude seem to upset other people to the point of frenzy but I'll try, really hard, not to say anything that could be misconstrued now. If Jaap feels I'm 'Out of line' he's more than welcome to tell me to pull my neck in.

Got this mail too,today.

Being banned, on probation.

First I thought it is a carnival joke.

Second I thought someone hacked MY account and made indecent posts.

Tgird I thought someone hacked Jaap's account and spammed me.

 

Now since I recognize that there was a previous history in this bord, which I do not visit frequently,

and some members pissed Jaap off, I tend to understand the reaction.

However, why then use the shot gun against ALL of the users, even those who have done nothing wrong?

Is it a kinda SIPPENHAFT?

 

I will stay away now for a while. Haven't been very active anyway.
