Guzzirider Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Ahhh ya wouldn't buy one if you knew it was perfect like a Honda!
belfastguzzi Posted March 8, 2008 Author Posted March 8, 2008 Ahhh ya wouldn't buy one if you knew it was perfect like a Honda! Has yours arrived yet? Any word on oil pump recall issue? The dealer here said that there are no recall notices.
Guzzirider Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Has yours arrived yet? Any word on oil pump recall issue? The dealer here said that there are no recall notices. Apparently it left the factory over a week ago! Still not arrived in Shipley. I believe the oil pump issue was just one bike somewhere in Europe. If it was 10 years ago, and we did not have forums there would be no panic!
pete roper Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Oh bugger.... http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=16583.0 Now now Mike! Until I have a looksee later today I have no idea if there is a serious problem or not. My guess is that there probably isn't, most likely it is simply the seal has let go. My Griso has had 40,000 hard kilometers, its NOT a show pony, it gets thrashed regularly and is also used as the 'Works Ute' most days of the week. As people probably know some of the very early Grisos and Brevas DID have a problem with their CARC drives due to the bean counters buying in a bunch of super-cheap low quality bearings. The factory did the right thing and replaced the CARC units effected immediately the problem was identified. Many of these were done BEFORE the bikes were ever ridden/sold and its because of this that I happen to have a spare! I got one of them that was taken off a zero Km machine and simply swapped out the bearing and installed a new seal! Apart from those I have heard of ONE confirmed case of a bearing failure and that was on a bike very close to the supposed cut-off number for the CARCs with dodgy bearings. My bike too is only a couple of dozen from that magic number so it MAY be that I was also the recipient of a left over cheapie but it's got to 40,000Km when most of the *Bad* ones failed at a few 100 Kms. I think this may well generate a lot more interest than it really warrants simply because its 'Pete Roper's' bike. Thing is while I think it is important that information is shared and problems discovered I also believe that it is vital not to blow things out of all proportion! I'm not going to deny there is a problem if it exists but there again I don't see a seal faling at 40,000Km as a big deal either. It's a poxy bit of steel and viton with a spring in it. If it DOES turn out to be a bearing failure? Well, that *may* be an issue but since I haven't heard of any rash of failures, (I'm sure my bike can't be the only one to have reached 40,000KM?) I tend to think that if it has gone tits it will either be because I got a duff bearing or simply bad luck. If the next one fails at or about 40,000 THEN I'd say there was an issue! Pete
belfastguzzi Posted March 9, 2008 Author Posted March 9, 2008 Congrats to Belfast on his new 8V Griso!
pete roper Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 C@nt! How come some snot-gobbling turd from the six counties can get his before I get mine! It's an outrage! I hope his cock falls off! Nah. Good on yer Mate! Enjoy!!!! Pete
belfastguzzi Posted March 9, 2008 Author Posted March 9, 2008 Yeah, but you've got... emus... and snakes... and fun stuff like that.
Guzzirider Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 Yeah, but you've got... emus... and snakes... and fun stuff like that. Are ya keeping your LM111 and V11?
belfastguzzi Posted March 9, 2008 Author Posted March 9, 2008 Are ya keeping your LM111 and V11? – well no one else would want them! Yes. If only you paid road tax for use of the road! You can only ride one machine at a time. They're all different and all a bit of history, especially the LMlll. I haven't ridden a Griso yet, but I'm sure the V.11, despite its quirky faults, will still provide a distinctively enjoyable ride of its own. I'll probably keep the Griso 'good' and 'fiddle with' the V.11 I need to get a couple more children moved out, so as I can get the Guzzis in.
Guzzirider Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 Glad you are hanging on to them! Are you going to keep the large Griso silencer, or are you planning on getting something with less weight and girth? I've sent an email to Mistral and they have already made and tested a prototype for the Stelvio, which will be in production in around ten days. Wouldn't be surprised if they have made a pipe for the 8V Griso as well.
belfastguzzi Posted March 9, 2008 Author Posted March 9, 2008 or are you planning on getting something with less weight and girth? Are you worried that I'll make you look inadequate, in May?
Guzzirider Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 Are you worried that I'll make you look inadequate, in May? Yes I wont be able to go if you are parked next to me with that large monstrosity!
Paul Minnaert Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 I think the one on the 8v looks ok. I think the ones made for the 1100 griso will fit, and if you realy want to change, the terminioni and quat-d are my favorites. For the Stelvio, I would wait some time to see what different manufactures come up with. Not get the first one.
belfastguzzi Posted March 9, 2008 Author Posted March 9, 2008 Yeh, the 8V can is not as gigantic. I'll be sticking with it, for a while anyway. I'm hoping that the sound is not too muffled. A Termi on the 1100 Griso sounds very good.
