Guest V11RossoNigel
Has anyone adapted a luggage system while using the Factory Guzzi Ti Hi pipes, I suspect that there is nothing made off the shelf so as to speak. However before I take to the garage for weeks at a time welding up frame gantry to accept baggage.....I would be gratefull of any advise if anyone has overcome this particular problem......and with some pics would be a great help. Here below is a picture of the pipes I refer to, as you can see they do come up very high. Cheers Nige
rocker59
You could use the longer OE footpeg brackets and "low mount" the cans. I believe this is what Greg Field and VA Sean have done.
Greg Field
Yes. It's easy to switch them from high to low and back again.
mdude
I've got a set of throw-over softbags (height adjustable with a big velcro in the middle, dont remember but they might be Oxfords) and they stay well clear of the Tis. And if they do touch is no problem cause of the low surface temperature. I never use a luggage rack, but I protect bodywork with a soft rubber mat of the anti-skid sort that you put under carpets. jcbooghs
The velcro-adjustable throw-over bags works fine and when you leave the motorcycle there is no ugly luggage rack. But for lack-protection it is better to use some 'Duck'-tape where the bags/belts hit the motorcycle parts. A soft mat can still rub the paint as sand and other debris gets between lack and bags or belts. It is still better to mount them 'not' touching the cans. The cans won't screw a hole in it but the exhaust-gases will.
Tom M
I use Cortech Sport soft bags with my high mounted pipes. As Rocker said, you can install the stock passenger footpeg brackets and lower your exhaust if you want to use the factory bags/frame or hard bags. Pics of my bike with the bags mounted, and some other options are here: http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...c=11447&hl= Another setup that won't interfere with your high pipes is Ventura: http://www.ventura-bike.com/fitments.aspx?modelid=
v11cafe
For weekend trips two up I use The Guzzi rack with a 50lt topcase plus the tankbag, so Ti pipes are no problem. Only thing I have done is to find stronger and longer screws, than the original for the rack, because I carry more weight than recommended.Bike is stable, and ...no problems so far

Out of curiosity, I weighed the Guzzi bag that goes on the rack, filled with my everyday stuff, not much. Sure enough, it was more like 5 kilos. I guess the rating is very conservative, and perhaps intended as a warning to avoid carrying kids on the rack, as warned against in the manual. But the rack does act like a lever on the bolts and on the front part of bike as a whole. Caution against heavy loads, especially behind the rear axle as is the case, makes some sense. The 50 lit. topcase would seem too big, but if it works for you...

Agree, the use I do is out of specs... and heavy load behind the rear axle, is not good, ...so if you ride alone needs caution, ....(I never use it alone)...but things get a lot better when there is weight, on the rear axle ( second person) and I can always adjust the ohlins to compensate for the weight, usually 3 clicks + compression, 2 clicks+ rebound My 50lt topcase fully loaded comes close to 20-30 kg, that's why I changed the screws with better quality, longer, added a locknut and I am in the habit to always check them for bending every time I use it. Guzzi rack is not designed for heavy load, and I take the risk to damage it,...let's see how much abuse it can stand. Hi pipes .....have a cost
Guest V11RossoNigel
Thanks Guys for all your input, it has been a help, so today I have ordered the factory kit with the frame. I will redesign the frame so I can retain the pipes in the high position, also make it quick release so when you get to your desination and staying for a few days, not only the baqs come off but the gantry can also be quickly removed, cause it looks bloody terrible without the bags attached. So the drawing board will be out again, when all finished I will post pictures. The other reason is I don't like things against the paintwork, because however carful you are you always seem to do a little damage, I know people will say different, but the smallest scratch would give me sleepless nights....Ha Ha. One other point directed at you Ti HI pipe lads....Have any of you experienced a bad fitting between the can an the angle pipe ? Where the springs attach, my right hand pipe is such a bad fit, it wobbles about even when everything is tightened up. I am thinking of turning up a shim to creat a tighter fit. If anyone else has had this problem I would be interested in how you overcam it. I might just be unlucky and have got a bad one. Look forward to your replies Cheers Nige
VA Sean
You could use the longer OE footpeg brackets and "low mount" the cans. I believe this is what Greg Field and VA Sean have done. Yup- I use the stock (low) position with the Guzzi Ti race kit and have the Hepco+Becker hard bags. Positioning the pipe (hi or low) is just a matter of the angle you have it coming from the extension from the x-over. Love it!
