macguzzi Posted April 19, 2008 Author Posted April 19, 2008 Bad luck why do they make these stands so short
belfastguzzi Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Bad luck why do they make these stands so short Absolutely - that's the question. Even on this newishly designed model, the sidestand is short, almost vertical (and in an awkward position). It takes very little forward movement of the parked bike to collapse the stand – and down goes the heap. Don't Guzzi know that two wheels just aren't stable? I see DL's bike broke a pivot bolt (different one) at the same time. It MUST BE an epidemic. Bikes are collapsing as we speak, er... type.
macguzzi Posted April 20, 2008 Author Posted April 20, 2008 Aprillias are even worse the bike is almost upright
belfastguzzi Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Aprillias are even worse the bike is almost upright They probably don't vibrate and shake as much as the Guzzis. I don't know anything about Harleys: someone said last night that their sidestands lock in position when they are down/out, so the big V twin can't over-power the stand mechanism. Maybe that was in older days?
mike wilson Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Sorry to hear this. I've made it a habit for some time to leave the bike in gear when it's on the sidestand.

Yes, though my mistake was to get off with engine running. It was the engine vibration that walked the bike forwards over the stand. True, it would have happened quicker if I'd also put it in gear. Just get it over and done with - is that what you're advocating.

Maybe that was in older days? Nope: H-D still uses the same Jiffy-stand design (pretty much) that they have since the 50s. Why fix what ain't broken and nobody else seems to have right anyway?
