The grease fitting we all see was invented and patented by Oscar Zerk. Arthur Guldborg and his father invented the grease gun while working for for the Alemite Die Cast Co.

Heres the pic of the end of the gun,notice how i ground down the tip,be carefull when doing this i screwed up my first try.

the tip swiv'els either way from verticle to par'allel,works great on the front Uni Joint Zerk fitting with a bit of fiddleing putting it on and off.

In North America you can get the fitting in Ace hardware stores and just fit it to a regular grease gun with the flexable hose,you dont have to remove anything from the bike surely a better way than some of the story's iv'e read on this subject.
