dangerous Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 And that's exactly what it was.The RHS TB blew out of the intake boot. So, loosened all the clamps, pushed it back in, retightened and she's a goer !!! I really would not have expected to have to look there,......only Guzzi's ay !!! Thanks for all your help, guys !!! but ya have to ask why it back fired to start with, not normal?
nudemetalz Posted April 29, 2008 Author Posted April 29, 2008 More of a 105mm Howitzer blast than a backfire !!! It's been running quite rich lately, hence getting the TPS sorted and doing the tappets this Friday. Wonder if the backfire was because of that. When I started it last night after putting the TB back, it started no worries.
GuzziMoto Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 TB = Carb. Was the choke on when it happened? That's for Ratchet.
nudemetalz Posted April 29, 2008 Author Posted April 29, 2008 There's no choke, only a fast-idle. It is supposed to be lovingly controlled by efficient Italian electronics
Guest ratchethack Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Was the choke on when it happened? That's for Ratchet. Fewer and fewer twins are still made with chokes. Except for this kind. -- And the choke's only in the left barrel.
Ouiji Veck Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Dam.... That was my first guess...TB blown off it's moorings. Happened to me twice in 35K mi....last time about 20K ago. No idea why. Little raw fuel got somewhere it shouldn't outta... No harm done and better to blow a boot off than bend a plate. (don't tighten those clamps too tight ) Set those valves to "world specs" while your (or your fixers) in there. Your bike will love ya for it. Good luck and happy motoring.
raz Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Hey, this is the coolest way to clean the air filter. I picture a cloud of dead bugs shooting out from my RAM air intakes When my battery died a couple of weeks ago I had very very slow cranking while the ECU probably reset in the middle of it, resulting in the absolutely worst bang I've ever heard from any exhaust. Man, that must have been the optimal backfire (afterfire?), it was unbelievably loud. Had it been in the intake manifold, I'm sure my whole TB assembly would have gone ballistic.
