dlapierre Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Does an 04' Lemans have a single or double plate clutch, and what difference does it make, anyway? I'm looking at an 04' and the information the seller is providing says it is a single plate, but he's not certain. thx
Guest ratchethack Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Dual plate on your '04 LM. The difference is for all practical purposes, none in terms of function. However, there were a series of single plate clutches on certain earlier models that were known to fail at high RPM (of course), with the usual resulting mayhem of heavy, high-speed schrapnel exploding out of their housings. If you want peace of mind on this, have the rubber bung-hole cover on the RHS of the clutch housing out for a look-see. You'll find the intermediate plate of the clutch in the clutch pack behind the flywheel, sandwiched betwen the two clutch disks. The single plate clutch has no intermediate plate.
