I have not installed a plate yet. With a new filter I put in 4qts. Never had a problem with light comming on. I don't do alot of hard starts because of no plate. Is this too much oil to run?

As I understand it, there are two possible problems with running it too high:

The first problem is that the oil could start blowing excessively into the airbox, causing excessive consumption and some oil leaking out of the airbox, on the left side where the throttle body connects.

If you add a windage/sloppage sheet/plate, the reduced windage will reduce the chance of that happening.

The second problem is that the increased level reduces the air space which increases the air pressure pulses as the cylinders approach Bottom Dead Center, and the increased air pressure pulses cause the seals to leak. Also, it can theoretically cause a reduction in power.

I don't think we have heard of any seals leaking at 4 quarts, and some people are apparently running the oil level up to the bottom of Pete's sloppage sheet, which might be about 5 quarts, and still no reports of blown seals.

And there has been no evidence of any reduction in power, and in fact there have been a couple reports of the sensation of more power after installing Pete's sloppage sheet and presumably running the oil at a higher than the high mark on the dipstick.

I just scored a Roper knock-off, but I must say its a beautifully machined piece of stainless. Now, where's the best source for the requisite gaskets that will be involved and how much oil should I run in the sump?

Any of the usual suspects would have the gasket. Moto International, MPH, MG Cycle, Fast by Ferraci, Eish, Uncommon, Harpers. It's the same one used in the Tonti models since '74. I believe you can put in an extra quart of oil. That should bring the level to just below the plate.

If you can't find Greg's instructions here they are hosted on the Guzzitech dk site.

Mate, I wondered what happened.

I did reply in a PM with my contact details etc but recieved no reply. Having said that I have a feeling that my 'Clever' 14 year old son has been trying to hide the fact he's been downloading cyber-porn from his parents and this has stuffed up our computer settings a bit so my message may well of gone AWOL!

Anyway, my email is

motomoda optusnet.com.au

with the *at* substituted with the ampersand of course

Try that, and hopefully your inbox won't fill up with pictures of girls with unfeasibly large bossoms!

Just thought I would update that my Oil Consumption appears to be down remarkably!

Less oil is collecting in left side of airbox, and the oil took 2000 miles to get a little below the high mark on the dipstick.

It is possible it got to that level miles ago, and it has stabilized.

I am guessing consumption has been cut in half, saving me maybe $10 per year

I am very happy!

Thanks Pete R.!!! (and all the others that have testified to the success of using a schloppage shleet.)

If you don't have a sloppage sheet, you should get one of Pete's or make your own!
