I'm sure this is in the wrong forum but I am looking for any reviews about them and if anyone has ever had them service their bike? I'm thinking of taking my bike to them for tuning and getting the PCIII custom map done. If there are no major issues then it looks like the 12k (oil change, adjust valves, etc) service will be $400 and the custom map will be $250. The wife is getting PO'd that I bought the exhaust and now the bike runs like crap and we have to shell out more $$$, given the fact that FBF is about 150 miles and rising gas prices....you get the picture.

Anyway, just looking for anyone with experience with/at FBF.

WELL, I got my exhasut and cross over from them but I haven't dealt with them for service, their parts are great and have held up well BUT you could just do the service yourself it isn't hard, there are walk throughs for everything. YOU could just buy a PCIII and load the map with the mods you have and do a fine tune of it later, your bike will run 10 times better with a generic map at least, the only thing is that if you have the valves done put them to world specs to help the bike run better as they have it pretty lean to make emissions or some hoopala.

De,

my bike was running perfectly before I installed the new exhaust and it seems my carbs are no longer sync'd, I have one or two posts in the tech forum asking what the heck is wrong w/ my bike, and I've tried a couple different maps. Anyway, my bike NEEDS a tuneup. If the tuneup doesn't cure the problems I'm having then I will take it to FBF for a custom map.

As deben said I would all the service work myself and let them do the custom mapping. Ive been to the shop and talked to them about doing a map on my bike. They told me that it would be no problem. The shop is very clean and neat i belive there more than equiped to do that sort of job you might even get luckey and the man himself does the job. Happend to my buddy. If you stay around while there running it, there is a window to see whats going on. I am doing mine as soon as i have the cash to spare maybe this fall. They would be my fist pick in the tri state for that job

Bikes are cheaper than wives...

DAMHIK...

They sure are, especially when you have two youngins'. Unfortunately the Peoples Socialist State of Maryland gives 70% of my paycheck to the wife in a divorce though :o Cheaper to keeper

FBF is not famous for it's customer service. I used to take my Ducati there. Used to.

My suggestion: no time like the present to learn to do your own tune up.

If you would rather not do it yourself now, then you might want to give Roland a call at the Spare Parts Co (215-922-2214). He's located in Old City Philadelphia. There is a pretty good crowd of Guzzi owners in Philly, and he's been servicing their bikes for years. I would be *very* surprised if your bike actually needed a power commander at this point. I have one now due to heavily modified engine... however, I ran the stock ECU for many miles with no airbox and aftermarket x-over and exhaust.

If after a proper tune up you think you still need a PC, install it yourself and talk to Todd over at guzzitech.com - I'll bet that he's probably got a suitable map for your bike.

I'm actually going to have my Md shop do the service, they are very good both in terms of service and support. Like many have said, I may not need the power commander and the Guzzi guy at the shop said that he ran a Quat D on his 2004 Ballabio w/ no problems on the stock ECU. So they will do the service and we'll go from there, but my guess is that most of you are correct in that a proper service will fix all my problems.

I have to agree with jtucker on all counts although Eraldo Ferracci is quite a character! When I bought my 2003 LeMans its came with Gianelli slip-ons, otherwise stock. It ran fine with minor adjustment of the CO2 at idle. As a side note, Eraldo himself dyno'd the bike and recorded 86 HP which I though was pretty impressive for an essentially stock machine. Later, Mike Rich (another excellent resource) got 82 HP after engine rebuild with hi-comp pistons, cam, valves and porting! The bike definitely runs stronger so one can only conclude Ferracci's dyno is on the "flattering" side of the spectrum.

Yes... FBF's dyno is *famously* overoptimistic.

Darius - which cam did you get? I've got the 620x10 (along with lots of Mike's other handywork).

After I finish re-breaking it in, I'd like to take a trip up to Mike's shop and have him do a dyno run.

I went with the Megacycles 620x9 per Mike's suggestion. My emphasis was on usable mid-range power (VS high RPM) which IMHO is in character with the Guzzi. After Mike got done - the beast runs strong to redline on all gears so I am happy with the results. I stuck with the OEM air filter b/c I was concerned with effectiveness of gauze/oil (Mike does not share my concern) but have a BMC waiting for installation when I can get the tank off (see other thread about my seat removal challenges).
