VR6Dave Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I can't recall where I read it but someone had insisted that the SG rating be followed for oils used in our bikes. The supporting argument was that oils such as SH and later do not have vital additives designed for the valvetrain/cam setup of the V11 motor. I came across this today: Oil Additives Is this what everyone was talking about as being vital? If so it looks like you can run any oil available with this as long as it meets the other criteria. Am I wrong? Dave
dlaing Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 something appears to be wrong with the link you posted.
dlaing Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 IMHO most oils should work well if you add the right amount of ZDDP. But if you have a catalytic convertor the ZDDP could be a bad thing. Moly is good too, and is known to be less detrimental to catalytic convertors. Synthetics, especially the better ones, will last longer and perform better at temperature extremes.
