crack on bevelbox

I hope I have the right name for it, checking tire pressure this morning and noticed a crack in the gray housing on the right side of my rear wheel. There is no oil leaking out from this though I see a drain plug on it. At the expense of sounding very uninformed, how common is this ? and what is the fix?. Thanks for your inputs

it is not a common problem that i am aware of.i presume it is above half way up since you say no leak's.you could wait to see if it get's worse,or to prevent failure jb weld it--or take it off to weld.good luck,let us know what is happening

not common, please post a detail picture. Depends if it's an area where force is on or not if you need to replace it.

Well it looks like a bolt some how came loose from behind and fell into the outer none oil carrying section of the rear diff while riding causing the crack..:-(

well oil or not, some parts do have a lot of stress, and might be a security issue if notting done to it.

You are sure there is a crack in the casing itself and not just the painting? I think if you have a crack through it would leak lots of oil regardless of if it's above the oil level or not.

raz, there is a part that has no oil and no direct function, here it's taken of. So if its in the part I tookoff, no wory, else there is a

I was not able to get a pix before taking it to my local dealer. but he crack is in the lower area between the drain plug on the left side and the bubble just above it in your photo.

from you'r saying its on the housing body,i think paul is correct.if it was on my bike i would have it welded

That looks pretty neat Paul. More like a carb Sport bevelbox. Is there room for a cush drive in your rear wheel? I've always thought that flange is too big, aestethically.
