Primarily this will be used for a cruiser to take on Harley at their own game as it is expected to give over 100 hp with lots of torque down low. Insiders suggest the next bike to get the new engine, after the yet unnamed new cruiser, will be the Norge. Other bikes may follow in due course, but it should be remembered that they are still working on a liquid-cooled version of their existing powerplant. The Milan Show in November seems to be the favorite for the new cruiser to break cover. " No mention of anything sporty A liquid cooled version of their existing powerplant? That would only be interesting to me if they really upped the power over the air cooled motors. Once you go to liquid cooling, there's no longer any reason to stick the jugs out in the breeze [it looks st00pid, like the old CX500 Hondas...] Emissions & noise regs and power demands may eventually require liquid-cooling, and when it does, it will be time for Piaggio to retire Carcano's old ditch-pump and try something new [maybe a v4 or v6 or how about a slant-triple, w/ the crank off to one side so the gearbox can slide alongside, contra-rotating, thereby shortening the engine length and cancelling the gyroscopic fx?] At any rate, it behooves Piaggio to try something that hasn't already been done to death by others, to retain the Guzzi history of marching to a different beat and getting it right first try. The Classic to be joined by a Sport model and a Touring model. Interesting stuff... Rumors persist of 4 valve heads coming to the small block engine... Maybe they will be on the V7 Sport showbike... The "sport" model is going to be a V7 classic painted in green as the old and glorious V7 Sport. That's it. Green paint. That's sporty enough for Piaggio. The "touring" model is a V7 classic with luggage and a small windshield. That's it: add luggage and you get a touring bike. That's how Piaggio is going to "push" the small block line. I am among the many who begged the company to spare us the humiliation of seeing the V7Sport badge misused on a small bike such as the V7 Classic. Seeing the V7Sport of year 2008 is a 40hp bike will be an insult to the great tradition of Moto Guzzi. Let's see if they'll hear us. I do hope with all my heart that Guzzi will surprise us with a new California, new sporty small block engine and stuff but so far rumors are far from pleasant. I'll keep you posted. Cheers, G. Af friend of us on the Anima Guzzista Forum developed the "Mandello Spore Theory" which is more or less: No matter how clever a manager is, no matter how prestigious his CV is, as soon as they are are settled in Mandello they become inept. Paul Minnaert Posted September 3, 2008 Share Posted September 3, 2008 I can imagine Piaggio not introducing so much new, they put a lot of money in Guzzi, with the 8v engine and the stelvio, after buying the remainders. And before spending new money some has to come in. Last year there was talk about reaching 10.000 build bikes, I think this year will be much less.
