FASTFREDDY Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Hey y'all, I just noticed today that when I come to a sto and get to just under 20mph my front brake shudders. very noticeable. i checked the pads and they are very good. Got any ideas? Fred
raceboy Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 I assume it's the front brakes that are giving the problems. Check the discs for warpage, possibly caused by overheating. A good way to tell is look for any discolourations (blueing). More accurate method is using a dial gauge to check for Flatness....is that a word?? Also check to make sure the caliper and disk fasteners are tightened to the appropiate torque specs. Hope that helps a bit. Raceboy
docc Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 The rotors are "semi-floating." Which means they semi "do not" float. Lubricate the buttons with a penetrating oil like Break-Free CLP and tap the rotor around a bit with a mallet. Wipe off any excess oil and see if the shuddering doesn't improve. Consider , also, cleaning the pads with a good brake cleaner and bleed the system well.
nose2wind Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Check steering head Bearings for looseness. I had this condition but it was more of a chatter! Good luck D
gavo Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 take the pads right out of the caliper and check and clean. I had a pad seperate from its backing plate and cause a terrible vibration but could not see it until I removed the pads
jrt Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 +1 This is what worked for me. I used a square plumbing tool to rotate the buttons when I lubricated them. Check them all. The rotors are "semi-floating." Which means they semi "do not" float. Lubricate the buttons with a penetrating oil like Break-Free CLP and tap the rotor around a bit with a mallet. Wipe off any excess oil and see if the shuddering doesn't improve. Consider , also, cleaning the pads with a good brake cleaner and bleed the system well.
FASTFREDDY Posted September 22, 2008 Author Posted September 22, 2008 Well I took the pads out and cleaned them with brake cleaner. Reinstalled and no shudder. Musta had some gunk on a pad. Thanks for all the advice. Fred
