(Shamelessly lifted from GuzziTech):

Hello from Bonneville. Today is Saturday 20 September 2008. Bill Ross had a great day. He made the back-up run for the record in 'APS 1000 PG'. Today he ran 170.856 mph. Bill Ross holds that record now. After that run we removed the front faring and the Guzzi changed classes. The new class is 'A 1000 PG' Bill made two passes in the new class. Both passes were just over 150.++ mph. Later the Guzzi went to impound and passed tech inspection. Now Bill has two Bonneville records with the Guzzi.

That really illustrates the effect of aerodynamics! I wonder if the extra 20mph was due only to the fairings or if there were other changes made between the two classes.

And at altitude, on salt!!!!!

I met Bill at the National in Malibu and saw the Meteor. Lovely man, fantastic bike!!!!

Hi Gang !

Mani and I just returned from a fantastic week at Bonneville. The Mandello Meteor ran great all week in spite of having a disastrous blowup from dyno operator error 3 weeks ago. talk about scrambling to pull and do a major rebuild on the motor. We made it to the flats with barely a half hour breakin time on a very fresh motor.

We attended the USFRA World of Speed, well we got jacked around a bit on thursday in impound due to rule changes and ended up running in a different class: Altered Partial Streamlining Pushrod Gas 1000cc, the record in that class was 161.050 , we ran a qualifying run of 171.246 averaged over the mile and backed it up the next morning with a average 170.467 run for a total average of 170.856 mph. Our first Bonneville record, almost 10 mile an hour faster than the current buell guys

( Team Elves ) record set in 2000 and the same record that bumped the `Cooked Goose` Guzzi team from the books. This is also about a 1 1/2 miles faster than the current record in Modified Partial Streamlining we were after, 169.20 mph, held by the factory special built Buell in HD`s product development corp as well. As far as I can tell, we have the fastest aspirated pushrod, under 1000cc, gasoline powered bike in `ANY` record book and the only one in excess of 170 mph. Viva Moto Guzzi !

Friday morning after the back up 170+ run, we reclassified the bike to an altered unfaired class and ran without the fairing on a 147.195 record. well we took a second record, that one with a two run average of 150.908 mph, 3rd gear runs to boot. Not a bad week`s work for a rookie team, bike and rider at the big white dyno.

We had a fantastic team, everyone got along great and worked very hard. The weather and salt conditions could not have been better. I really cant imagine going back to Bonneville and topping this adventure, though will give it a shot as now hopelessly been bitten by the nasty ole salt bug .

Hope to see many of you this Saturday, No workie ! Bill
