jihem Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Hi, A friend of mine may get a 2003 Stone California Limited edition (it has twin brakes and stainless exhaust over the 'classic' model). It isn't the hydraulic valves system but it has the bad black paint. What should he look for in that model, what are the small (or big) problems he may face with that specific model ? Is it totally the same engine as the V11 or different cams and different gearbox, etc...? thanx for all the (constructive) input!
fotoguzzi Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 the bubbleing paint was the big issue with that year. the motor is de-tuned compared to the V11S. does it have a single plate clutch? they have had problems, some got re-fitted with the old dual plate set up. I forget what year that was. the big problem? If he gets a flat tire he will have to remove the wheel then the TUBE, patch it and re-mount everything.. If he can find a used EV it would have tubeless rims thus he could plug it on the bike, fill and go!
jihem Posted October 18, 2008 Author Posted October 18, 2008 Thanx for the tips. Unfortunately (?), the deal is for a Stone, not an EV...
Guzzirider Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Stone is very similar to my Jackal. Engine has smaller valves and sump than V11- less power but nice and pokey in the midrange, especially with less restrictive pipes and a crossover. 5 speed gearbox rather than V11's 6 speed- in fact I think it may be the same spec motor as in your GB. Usual potential Guzzi niggles- relays, starter solenoid etc but in general a nice bike- they handle much better than your average cruiser because of the Tonti frame and nice balance. May need to modify seat for long distance comfort.
