Guest ratchethack Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 We rarely get a chance to see another country's unvarnished, TRUTHFUL commentary on the USA. The following was written by Mr. Cornel Nistorescu and published under the title, 'C'ntarea Americii, meaning 'Ode To America', in the Romanian newspaper Evenimentulzilei 'The Daily Event' or 'News of the Day'. Generations of Eastern Europeans have the first-hand life experience of losing their freedom under the exact same threats that now increasingly loom more menacingly over America. Their vision is crystal clear, not sullied by the vile seduction of propaganda. They have seen it all before, and they well recognize every signpost along the road to tyranny that remain invisible to countless others in their (increasingly, it seems) willfully blind ignorance. Neither many Europeans, nor many Americans who have not lived such lives (nor ever heard of such accounts due to politically correct captive Amerikan Liberal media censorship) grasp the concept of freedom so well as many Eastern Europeans.* I had a good friend of uncommon integrity, courage, intelligence, and resourcefulness who was born and lived under the iron boot of Soviet tyranny in Hungary. He defected to the USA under a strictly enforced death warrant, arriving here penniless, without knowing a word of English, leaving his family and all he owned behind. He later smuggled them out to join him here to start a new life in freedom and opportunity, concepts which were never lost on him and his family, despite the daily barrage of anti-American propaganda and hatred that our Nation is increasingly force-fed in the captive Amerikan Liberal media and in the captive Amerikan Liberal government schools. He started his own Engineering company and became very successful before he was killed in a skiing accident. He died enjoying a passion he shared with myself and many other good friends countless times over many years. Unlike millions of his former countrymen who had fallen for all the historically well-worn false promises, and as a result lived under grinding poverty and relative slavery (for all too many, it is all they have ever known), Sandor died in freedom and prosperity, leaving his family with such security, safety, and FREEDOM as their former fellow countrymen had never imagined possible. Sandor and his family became American Citizens by entering the country and earning their citizenship legally. Today, more than any other day, they thank God for America. ~ An Ode to America ~ Why are Americans so united? They would not resemble one another even if you painted them all one color! They speak all the languages of the world and form an astonishing mixture of civilizations and religious beliefs. On 9/ll, the American tragedy turned three hundred million people into a hand put on the heart. Nobody rushed to accuse the White House, the Army, or the Secret Service that they are only a bunch of losers. Nobody rushed to empty their bank accounts. Nobody rushed out onto the streets nearby to gape about. Instead the Americans volunteered to donate blood and to give a helping hand. After the first moments of panic, they raised their flag over the smoking ruins, putting on T-shirts, caps and ties in the colors of the national flag. They placed flags on buildings and cars as if in every place and on every car a government official or the president was passing. On every occasion, they started singing: 'God Bless America !' I watched the live broadcast and rerun after rerun for hours listening to the story of the guy who went down one hundred floors with a woman in a wheelchair without knowing who she was, or of the Californian hockey player, who gave his life fighting with the terrorists and prevented the plane from hitting a target that could have killed other hundreds or thousands of people. How on earth were they able to respond united as one human being? Imperceptibly, with every word and musical note, the memory of some turned into a modern myth of tragic heroes. And with every phone call, millions and millions of dollars were put into collection aimed at rewarding not a man or a family, but a spirit, which no money can buy. What on earth can unite the Americans in such way? Their land? Their history? Their economic Power? Money? I tried for hours to find an answer, humming songs and murmuring phrases with the risk of sounding commonplace, I thought things over, I reached but only one conclusion... Only God-given freedom can work such miracles. - Cornel Nistorescu More often these days, it takes a person on the outside - looking in - to see what fools take for granted (and will never see)! Happy Thanksgiving!!! THANK GOD FOR AMERICA !!! *Background: Romania was under Soviet control until 1989. In preparation for joining the European Union, the government has been implementing economic reforms consistent with the Maastricht criteria. However, friction between Romania's two main governing coalition partners, the ruling Democratic Party (DP) and National Liberal Party (NLP), as well as within the DP and NLP parties themselves, has caused political deadlock more recently. Macroeconomic improvements have spurred the growth of the middle class and have helped to reduce poverty. Investment activity is expected to remain strong after accession to the EU, with new and modernized production facilities being launched, large public investment projects getting underway, and healthy inflows of foreign direct investment continuing. *Background: Hungary held its first multi-party elections in 1990 following nearly 50 years of Communist rule and has succeeded in transforming its centrally planned economy into a market economy. Both foreign ownership of and foreign investment in Hungarian firms are widespread. The governing coalition, comprising the Hungarian Socialist Party and the liberal Alliance of Free Democrats, prevailed in the April 2006 general election. Hungary needs to reduce the size of its government budget relative to the economy and complete further economic reform in order to meet the deadlines for accession to the euro zone. gstallons Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Ditto! We live in a country where we KNOW it can always be better and we live every day with that optimism driving us.I am not ingnorant of the things that happened, are going on and might continue. But these things are not going to continue with my blessings. I will make a difference. 'Where there is no vision the people perish".
charlie b Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Thanks for that note. I cringe every election when I see how few of the people in the US even bother to vote, because it is raining, or too far to drive, or means getting up early, etc. Even more so when I see people in other countries actually risk their lives to go cast a ballot, sometimes walking for days to get to a ballot box. I do give thanks every day for what I am blessed with and for the courage of my grandfather, who left Montenegro when the Soviets took over that country, moving to a place in the middle of the southwest desert to start a new life. It was in part due to him that I entered service to help maintain that freedom for us and for others. May everyone be able to experience freedom in their lifetime. charlie
Admin Jaap Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Although I really appreciate the sentiment of Ratchet's post and think of it as non-inflammatory, I fear where this thread will be going... I will maintain a short leash, I hope you'll understand.
Guest ratchethack Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 . . . I do give thanks every day for what I am blessed with and for the courage of my grandfather, who left Montenegro when the Soviets took over that country, moving to a place in the middle of the southwest desert to start a new life. It was in part due to him that I entered service to help maintain that freedom for us and for others. Thank you for your service in preservation of the freedoms that remain to us for as long as they may, Charlie. . . . May everyone be able to experience freedom in their lifetime. Hear, hear! Even those among us who haven't a clue, and never will have a clue what it means.
charlie b Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Jaap, Yes, it should remain non-inflammatory. Thanks. ratchethack, thanks.
antonio carroccio Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 First thanksgiving in America has been in 1621. Celebration of a rich harvest. That's not political but a religion event. Do not sure where this event comes from, perhaps from Europe, but….
Dimitris Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Jaap, Yes, it should remain non-inflammatory. Thanks. ratchethack, thanks. Yeap, it could remain non-inflammatory, but it could become contagious! Achtung!
Baldini Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 This stuff is not v11 or motorcycle specific so should be in "Special Place for Banter etc". CAN SOMEONE MOVE IT PLEASE? Thanks, KB PS: I have no objection to the discussion, just it's in the wrong place. There's a proper area for it so why not there?
Skeeve Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Do not sure where this event comes from, perhaps from Europe, but…. Actually, lots of indigenous societies have a tradition of a last big feast before the food supplies narrow for the winter [dry season, etc.] Before decent food preservation options existed, the best way to store food was often in your body as fat to be burned later...
Guzzirider Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Hope our American friends all enjoyed their turkey dinner- I know my relatives in Pennsylvania were stuffing their faces!
