macguzzi Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 I've been thinking about this for ages ooooh it's hard, here's some off the top of my head 1. Isobel Goudie, The Sensational Alex Harvey Band 2. Hey Joe Jimi Hendrix 3. Put it where you want it, Average White Band 4. Sweet Jane Lou Reed 5. Bank Robber, The Clash
Admin Jaap Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 There was a cool Seattle movement back on the 90s. No, I am not refering to Nirvana. But some "diamonds" that didn't last long http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=XjNjJR9jUGo Chris Cornell Best rock singer of the 90's!
gstallons Posted December 28, 2008 Author Posted December 28, 2008 On a whim of the day, my top five: 1. Led Zepplin's Stairway to Heaven 2. Iron Butterfly's In a Gadda Da Vita 3. Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody 4. Jimi Hendrix Experience's version of Bob Dylan's All Along The Watchtower 5. Neil Young and Crazy Horse's Hey Hey My My into the black But there are a lot of contenders so tomorrow it may change EDIT The Who's Baba O'Riley My Generation (the first punk rock hit?) may replace on of the above, but which one???? See the "church quartet with stage fright" rip throught it at Monterey http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0XknwXqLDo...feature=related The church quartet with stage fright a.k.a. THE WHO. One of my all time favorite groups, I have had probably every recording in one form or another.Someone called them "the thinking man's rock". It's my rock too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHHToi3tAlg The Who live at Leeds..best played loud. I don't know if Townshend destroyed his guitar there. I know he and Hendrix destroyed them at Monterey with Jimi setting his on fire with lighter fluid. Eric Burden described the two events as "one being a violent rape and the other as an erotic sacrifice".
jihem Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Chris Cornell Best rock singer of the 90's! I kinda agree, altho you cannot rule out Kurt Cobain (and the huge impact Nirvana/ grunge) had on the early 90's music scene), Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr Bungle,...) and Al Jourgensen (Ministry, Revolting Cocks).
Guzzirider Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Chris Cornell Best rock singer of the 90's! He has a sensational voice- very special Spoonman
belfastguzzi Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Time for some Rock'n'Guzzi Following Christmas, it's appropriate to mention Cake, as they tie in Moto Guzzi with RocknRoll 'lifestyle' in their song: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ILRpRv57H0g&...feature=related And remember Scritti Politti? I hope not. http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...st&p=113155
Dimitris Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I kinda agree, altho you cannot rule out Kurt Cobain (and the huge impact Nirvana/ grunge) had on the early 90's music scene), Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr Bungle,...) and Al Jourgensen(Ministry, Revolting Cocks). Chris Cornell! What a throat! Nirvana! The band that made grunge known to the many. Nevermind is a golden one! In Utero, for me was THE epitomy of what was called Grunge. Imagine the music we would still hear if Kurt was alive! What a pitty... Also another excellent band and one of my favourites were Screaming Trees. Mark Lanegan with his "dark" "bluesy" voice and the Conner brothers with their post-modern-reconstruction of garage-grunge-psychedelic guitar and bass playing (with plenty of Wah-Wah dirty pedals), together with an amazing drum player (Barrett Martin and Mark Pickerel in early years) wrote music that when you hear it you just want to lay down on the beach, under the hot sun, drinking cold beer, smoking a tasty cigarette (dried)... like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gKFT5n2lGQ...feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgiO1t4iGwI...feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NT8Zd1d2ACY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWZoESAq72Q PS: I am sorry I could not choose the songs..I could just post all of them...
belfastguzzi Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Focus: Progrock (& Roll) There is a great series of old programmes about Prog on BBC4, started yesterday. (By a freaky coincidence it was preceded by a programme on the Large Hedron Collider.) There's just been a clip of Focus' first appearance on BBC tv – and I fondly remember originally seeing it http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-v7LzOeTkfM They've said that following the Old Grey Whistle Test appearance, demand for the album was so high that the record company had to switch their plant's entire production output to the record for 10 days. Next up: over an hour of ELP on tour in 1973. Overturn the Hammond, let-fly the Moog, unleash the Manticore.
Admin Jaap Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Is there a Mellotron in there somewhere too?
belfastguzzi Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Is there a Mellotron in there somewhere too? There probably was, until the Manticore ate it. Such were the dangers of prog rock. Youtube: ELP performing part of Tarkus
mike wilson Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 He has a sensational voice- very special Spoonman http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=uu8J2aGzIY0 Wait for the fadeout. Who's the bass player?
mike wilson Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 BTW, I didn't know PRoper was in a band, waaaaaay back. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=2pGht71KFkY Wait for the piano break in the middle.

mike wilson Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 If that's Roper(in the bowtie) he should be ready for the nursing home by now. Not while there are still goats to burst and chickens to strangle.
gstallons Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 According to the video he doesn't look like the Ozzy Osborne or Alice Cooper type. I suppose everyone has a wild side?
