jihem Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Alain Bashing is being buried today, in Paris. Most of you may not know him, but Alain Bashung has left his print on (french) rock music as much as Serge Gainsbourg left his on pop. He was a true legend, very gentle and mysterious, a kind of cross between Scott Walker and Johnny Cash, dark, somber, intuitive and intelligent. His lyrics were incredible, poetic but not eau-de-rose and his music was often adventurous and bold and mixing many elements from different sides of music. I had the chance to meet him, to work with him, and today is indeed a sad day, only brighten by the fact that at least he's not suffering no more. He'd been battling for two years, even recording an album and touring while having chimio, but it finally got to him. Two weeks previous to his death, he won three Victoires de la Musique, the most important french music awards. Godspeed Alain.
