tmcafe Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Just read this--a neighbor saw me wrenching on my bike and brought me the mag with the article: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/24/magazine...bor-t.html?_r=1
Guest ratchethack Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Thanks for posting, TMC. An excellent read for any dedicated DIY-er (and I suspect for any Pro Wrench/moto shop proprietor for that matter?), and incisive social commentary on The Great Planetary Bureaucratic Dumbing Down phenomenon, to boot.
mike wilson Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 He's tried the academic route and admits failure there; his attempt at tradesman seems to be equally unsuccessful, given that many who choose that route do so because very good money can be earned and he is certainly not doing that. He seems to have a genuine interest in motorcycles (although he doesn't know that the crossheaded screws on Japanese bikes are not often Philips system...) but he does seem to be rather a dilletante.
John in Leeds Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Great read, thanks. I've forwarded it already. +1 Thanks.
