So, as I'm sitting on the side of the road waiting for a truck and admiring my trashed rear wheel bearing, I thought I ask you guys where the best place to go for wheel bearings here in the states. And also, is 16k miles a good run for a bearing?I have the manual and I don't remember seeing the interval for these things.

Oh well, good new is it gave me warning and was able to stop before anything really bad happened. Thanks for any info guys.

Cheers

As matter of interest, which bearing is knackered? They seem to eat left side (Brake side) brngs - but I've never figured out why. I've always wondered why torque fig. in handbook is given for right hand (bolt head) side rather than for nut.

Bearing is 6204.2RSR.C3. Any bearing factor or Guzzi dealer should carry them. My understanding is C3 indicates wider ball to race clearances which is important in this application.

You can get pretty much anything you need here. There is probably a location in your area.

Edit - they have the part # Keith supplied for $14.10, copy & paste here: http://www.motionindustries.com/motion3/js...oductSearch.jsp

there is no need for C3 bearings! I have put regular bearings in and they have run 25000km's now and they are still in good condition!!

I got new tires at like 11k and they were pretty knackerd and lucky my dealer checked them all(and replaced them all) the dealer went as far as to send a guy on a scooter down to a supply shop to get better than stock replacement bearings for me and only charged me the price of the bearings, damn good shop back then, not as good now, they moved and things changed, miss those guys. I'll have them look at the bearings again when I get some new rubber later this summer.

I got the rear wheel bearings from McMaster-Carr for about $11 each a couple years ago. Their part number is 6661K105. The bearings I got were SKF 6204-2RSH/C3 GJM (made in Argentina).

They also have a grease gun fitting that will reach the front U joint if you need one. Part number is 1090K47.

Well as a matter of fact, that's exactly the one. I looked in the manual when I made it home and realized that the interval for them is 12k miles. I guess I'm a little over.

So while I'm at it, you guys wouldn't happen to have the bearing numbers for the front wheel would you?

Thanks for all the replies.

The seats usually show widely spread diameter tolerances. If the old bearing goes out easily, a normal bearing is good on this side. Does it sit very tight, then a -C3 was probably the better choice.

My '02 with Marzocchi forks uses two different bearings:

52x 25x 15 mm = 6205-2RS

52x 20x 15 mm = 6304-2RS

I don't know if your Scura is different because of the the Ohlins fork. If you have the hollow axle I'm sure it is, but I think those came on later bikes? Hopefully a fellow Scuristi will chime in :ninja:

One of my front wheel bearings felt a little gritty the last time I had the wheel off so I ordered the set from mcmaster. They will go in the next time I pull the wheel, but this time I'm going to use a real bearing puller. I don't like beating them out with a punch so I got this: http://www.pitposse.com/whbereset.html

Thanks Tom. Those numbers were good for the Ohlins as well.

I've got them all on order. I'll pick up tomorrow for 52 bucks all the way around.

From now on I'm probably going to plan on bearings every 10k miles. Better safe than stuck on the side of the road again.

Cheers
