belfastguzzi Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Torr Head Road. North Antrim Coast, Northern Ireland. Some of you traveled this road on the Ulster Rally in May, but there was mostly no visibility due to the mist and lashing rain. Here is a bit of a view. Scotland could be seen this time, though I do have to add that photography here was interrupted by horizontal rain blowing in. More pics on Flickr Torr Head
belfastguzzi Posted August 30, 2009 Author Posted August 30, 2009 The Ulster Grand Prix circuit, Dundrod, in the hills above Belfast
Guzzirider Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Excellent BFG! The thought of riding a 220bhp Superbike on the Dundrod circuit in the dry let alone wet is very scary!
Ballabio Bertie Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 So that's how Torr Head looks like! Ha! We know it doesn't look like that..must be photoshop..
stockport claret Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 that can't be right, i'm sure those roads are supposed to be rivers as always, great pics bfg Torr Head Road. belfastguzzi Posted September 1, 2009 Author Posted September 1, 2009 Excellent BFG! The thought of riding a 220bhp Superbike on the Dundrod circuit in the dry let alone wet is very scary! You're right. Riding around it's hard to imagine an average of 133mph! (Top speeds of 170 - 190.) Because it's high and exposed, in various corners it's like you could easily just drop off into space. I think Joey commented on that in one of those videos – the feeling that if you went off there's a long way to drop. It's not exactly a vertical drop, off a cliff. It's the long view into the distance and the sense of exposure. You're also, for example, flying blind over the brow of a hill corner (with that view into the long distance) onto a steep downhill, as in those Deer's Leap photos; then at the bottom rounding damp, tight, blind corners under trees – at those speeds.
belfastguzzi Posted November 15, 2009 Author Posted November 15, 2009 I came across these videos. They show some of the character of the Torr Head Road, though as with all videos, they don't capture the dramatic up and down gradients. Maybe those of you who rode it last May can see better why I went that way. Pity we got blasted by deluging rain, wind and low cloud! We went in the opposite direction, south to north. These are basically north - south. I'm posting them here because the curves in my photos above can be seen at 3'40" in This one has motorbikes, again that particular section appears at 2'25" And a scenic one,
