Greybeard Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Opened the tank this afternoon to put in some StaBil and.... The dreaded Tank Suck. "No biggie" you'll say, but I don't have no steenkin' tip-over valve! Tossed that when I discovered the US is the only place that has them. I know, pull the tank, check the tube routing...but it's been on the lift so long sorting the bars! I wanna ride the damn thing! I'll post pics of the bars later.
jrt Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Then ride. Problem solved. Open the gas fill occasionally. FWIW, I have not had any tank suck since I removed the grommet under the filler cap. Is that what you removed?
Greybeard Posted October 23, 2009 Author Posted October 23, 2009 No, I removed the so-called "tipover valve" under the tank. From what I've read that was allegedly the culprit in creating a vacuum in the tank. Tell me more about this grommet under the fill cap!
Greybeard Posted October 24, 2009 Author Posted October 24, 2009 ANYONE know about the "grommet under the fill cap" ? Not referring to the cap-to-tank seal?
docc Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 When you lift the cap, there is a small rubber nipple at 1:00 (looking at the cap upside down) which seals the tank vent. SOme have removed theirs to let the tank vent under the cap instead of out the plumbing. Sounds like you should check your hose routing.
