Richard Z Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 My 11 year old son Trent finished his 2nd restoration project last month. Thought I'd share some pics of him and the 1973 Suzuki GT250 Hustler.
Richard Z Posted November 30, 2009 Author Posted November 30, 2009 And at the first show with the bike along side his TS185
Tom M Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 That's awesome Richard! Did you buy him a book on wheel lacing? That's not something that many adults, nevermind 11 year olds, can figure out on their own. Is he keeping his restoration projects until he gets his license or is he selling them off? It looks like he still has the 185 that he did last year.

He picked up on the lacing from me. I did a set of wheels and he watched. He then figured the rest out on his own....
DeBenGuzzi Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 I only hope my kids turn out half as smart as your son, seriously he's 11 and could totally KICK my ass in a bike build off, I mean destroy me

So he had to refurbish the ones he had. I don't have a before pic, but you couldn't read the Odometer due to the yellowed lenses before. He used 1/8" lexan to make the new lenses. Fortunately the gauge faces just needed cleaning. The parts after he powder coated them.
pete roper Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Another superb job! Hopefully this time if he enters it in a show the 'Prize' won't be taken out by some retarded redneck's offspring and a cheap Chinese knock off bought from WalMart Pete
DeBenGuzzi Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 they probably thought dad did most of the work which I doubt, but thats judges for you, just like in a science contest the best one doesn't always win because they think the parents did it.
Richard Z Posted November 30, 2009 Author Posted November 30, 2009 Ha Ha.. You remebered... He didn't have that trouble this year... He finished the 250 2 days before that show. Once again the Chinese Chopper showed up. Trent took home the hardware... BTW, at the show there is a photo album with more than enough pictures showing who is doing the work. Well except for the heavy lifting. When he starts restoring bikes larger than 250cc, he'll have to stab his own engines in the frame...
