JoeGuzzi Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 "It's better to be a live dog than a dead lion" BTW are you going to Burkesville next weekend? Nah, next weekend is my birthday and plans for travel that weekend have been set for months. Wife and I try to spend that "hidden away" every year. Joe in Atlanta 1972 Eldorado 2004 Ballabio
docc Posted May 7, 2010 Author Posted May 7, 2010 Well Guys. Looks like I lost the family fight. My mom and wife tag teamed me about attending my niece's wedding. I finally raised the white flag and told them I would cancel a nice ride on some awesome mountain roads with a bunch of great guys so I could put on my black suit and attend another somber event. I had my reservation, vacation scheduled, clothes picked out and dog sitter lined up. Maybe next year, got to run out of nieces sometime. I'll be thinking about ya'll while I'm at the big hen party. Ride Safe, have a great time and hope to join you next year. Married in Atlanta Joe 1972 Eldorado 2004 Ballabio With all the road closures in the mountains, I think we'll all come to the niece's wedding. Oh, yeah, the famlee's gonna love this! And the next time you say "I'm going riding with 'some guys,'" they'll be more *enthusiastic.* (If only you just don't bring the whole lot around to the reception again.) Let us know if we can help you out . . .

Let us know if we can help you out . . . Would not be the first time me and a bunch of drunk friends crashed a wedding. LONG time ago I worked at Dow Corning. A group of us went deep sea fishing. Real bad seas so we did not get much fishing done. We just drank alot and puked alot. We went back to port, got off the boat, saw a wedding at one of those nice sea side hotels. SO we decided it would be OK to invite ourselves. In goes 12 of us, wet, drunk, smelling like beer/puke/fish. We had a great time, not so sure about the invited guests but we enjoyed it. I would check with DeeDee about the SSR detouring thru Macon but I'm older and don't heal as fast as I used to. Joe 1972 Eldorado 2004 Ballabio

docc Posted May 20, 2010 Author Posted May 20, 2010 Hey, just cause your starter's on the fritz is no excuse! (We'd push you off. No, really). The innkeeper tells me there are still seven rooms available. I don't know that Guzzisti have take up the entire place, but it's looking promising for a good turnout! The Middle Tennessee contingent will gather on Friday morning for breakfast at MarcyJo's Mealhouse on the corner of TN 99 and US 431 four miles east of I65/exit 46. We'll try to roll out of there at 9am and head east the 260 some miles to Tellico Plains. Exit 46, Columbia, has a good selection of lodging, food and fuel for those who might want to stage there Thursday night. (Let me know if you are going to be in town, I'd like to come up and meet you before we head out!)
motowfo Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Well, it looks like there will be at least one Austrian bike along on the Friday trip settling into room 20X for a nice soak and sleep before the Saturday trek to B'ham... docc Posted June 1, 2010 Author Posted June 1, 2010 ( The Austrian answer begs the question, "orange or grey?" Guess we'll find out soon enough! ) I've laid in the loop for Saturday clockwise through the Smokey Mountain National Park and back over the Cherohala Skyway. I'm not able to attach it here in Garmin Mapsource, but I have it on SD card to import to your device if it is so equipped (ie:ZUMO and perhaps others with SD capability). Otherwise, I might could e-mail it. Either e-mail or PM me your e-mail address if any of you would like me to try and send it. Quite a few of us will be arriving in Tellico Plains mid afternoon Friday and looking forward to heading over to Mike's shop (Tellico Motorcycle Outfitters) before settling in on the tarmac for the protracted tech session aided and abetted by neurologic solvents. See ya'll soon! docc
docc Posted June 3, 2010 Author Posted June 3, 2010 After reading back through he thread, I thought some clarification was in order: 1) Yes, the Saturday loop really is, after all, clockwise. 227 miles as the Garmin flies. 2) Yes, Hagan always gets his way. Expect a big play for Mex food at some point. 3) The Austrian answer is: "black." 4) Mike, at Tellico Motorcycle Outfitters is hoping to ply us with T-shirts just for showing up. I'm down with this as I was planning on wearing my faded orange TMO shirt all weekend. 5) See you in the mountains! (posted 36 hours out)
Bill Hagan Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 **** 2) Yes, Hagan always gets his way. Expect a big play for Mex food at some point. **** There are two Hagans at this Raid ... and, yes, Polish princess that she is, Kathi almost always does get her way. On the bright side -- at least your bright side -- she thinks I'm a bit stoopid over Mexican food. See you at Tellico. Bill

Wayne Orwig Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Nerts! I'm busted! Bill, you are never, ever up this late! I'm hoping to meet up Saturday along the route. I'll just set the GPS to hit all of the Mexican joints along the route. Seriously though, someone send my a text or call letting me know roughly where and when you are stopping.
grumpybiker Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Thanks for a great time. I'll be back next year. You guys holler if you make it to North East TN, you always have a couch to sleep on here.

You guys holler if you make it to North East TN, you always have a couch to sleep on here. gb: Glad you and the E.TN guys made it down! That was a very nice trio of Guzzis! Hope you fellows got home without the "dampness" we encountered.Overall, there were eleven Guzzis at the Raid with a token BMW 800S and an escort by KTM/vintage Ducati/and Honda ST1300. Walt and Anna at The Lodge at Telllico turned out great and Mike at Tellico Motorcycle Outfitters was very hospitable. Looks like the best option for South'n Spine Raid Seven in twenty-eleven!I know Bill will give us a proper photo album link, but remember, you just can't believe everything you read in a caption!Best regards to all. I relish the time with other riders and the wit and wisdom is always second to none!
