rktman1 Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 OK, on my 03 V11 LeMans the taillight bulb has a filament burnt out. It is a Phillips 12499 P21/5W bulb. Do I have to go the dealer to get one of these or is there an equivalent bulb? Sorry, I tried to search the site but couldn't find (easily) another thread detailing this. I did see some mention of LL bulbs (long life) and also using grease to quell some of the vibration.
rktman1 Posted January 10, 2010 Author Posted January 10, 2010 I did find this on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/GE-P21-BP2-Automotiv...4415&sr=8-2
Guest ratchethack Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Any corner Auto Parts will normally stock a correct replacement. Unless you're using dielectric grease on the contacts (not necessary in the slightest), DO NOT use general purpose lithium grease on any part of it.
gstallons Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 The bulb in my bike (if it is the combination tail/stop lamp) is the same as an 1157 bulb. I don't know if the Phillips is the same candlepower? For the bulb, go to an automotive (NOT a chain store) parts supply store in your area. They have countermen that can help you. Most chain stores have former fast food workers. Go to a store that sells boat trailers for the correct grease to fill the socket cavity when installing the bulb.
rktman1 Posted January 11, 2010 Author Posted January 11, 2010 Gotcha! Simple enough - auto parts store. Thanks - I was hoping it wasn't a dealer trip.
rktman1 Posted January 15, 2010 Author Posted January 15, 2010 Well, I haven't made it to a real auto parts store yet but I went ahead and ordered these from amazon.com: Two GE bulbs for $6.00: http://www.amazon.com/GE-P21-BP2-Automotiv...4415&sr=8-2 They worked just fine. Of course, I don't know how they will stand up to the vibration.
