ninepeaks Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 I was riding home from work when my gear would not budge from the 1st. Didn't know what was going on. Thought shift linkage or something was caught in something or worse. Had to tow the bike home; didn't want to risk getting run over on I-66 from DC. When I got home, I looked in the forum topics and voila, there it was. Shift pawl spring...under tension...from wrong size boss...yadda yadda yadda. So I opened up the transmission and sure enough I found a broken spring. I'll be ordering some extra springs and maybe file down the boss 1 mm. Here's a stupid question from the noob: does engine and transmission share oil or are they separate?
docc Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Separate oils. Most would say your gearbox will shift more nicely with Redline. While you've got it apart, clean your external shift mechanism thoroughly and maybe even shim it for any play at the pivot shaft. Take the opportunity to bleed the clutch fluid. Your LeMans is a 2002? How many miles?
